Minister for Culture, Tourism, and Civil Aviation, Badri Prasad Pandey, welcomed climber and guide Pasang Namgel Sherpa, who recently returned after successfully summiting Broad Peak. The reception took place at the ministry today.
Sherpa, hailing from Khumbu Rural Municipality in Solukhumbu, achieved the remarkable feat of summiting Broad Peak, the 12th highest mountain in the world located in Pakistan, twice in the same season.
During the meeting with Minister Pandey, Sherpa requested the establishment of a welfare fund for climbers. He highlighted the challenges of accidents on the mountains and the difficulties in arranging helicopter rescues. Additionally, he urged the government to make it easier for foreign climbers to comply with the requirement of bringing back eight kilograms of waste from Camp 2.
Minister Pandey assured Sherpa that he would discuss the establishment of a climbers’ welfare fund and the management of waste on the mountains with the relevant authorities and facilitate the necessary arrangements.
