Minister Tamang Highlights Infrastructure Development at Manthali Airport

At the ‘Manthali Tourism Promotion’ event organized by Manthali Municipality, Culture, Tourism, and Civil Aviation Minister Hit Bahadur Tamang underscored significant infrastructure enhancements at Manthali Airport. The improvements have led to a 20% increase in flight numbers, indicating the airport’s growing importance.

Minister Tamang highlighted the government’s commitment to prioritizing Manthali Airport in future budget plans of the Civil Aviation Authority and related offices. He encouraged local governments to actively promote lesser-known tourist destinations across Nepal.

Bagmati Province’s Minister for Culture, Tourism, and Cooperatives, Shailendra Man Bajracharya, voiced concerns about the impact of new infrastructure on traditional heritage. He reiterated the province’s dedication to developing tourist areas while preserving Manthali’s cultural heritage. “Bagmati Province will support Manthali, recognizing its religious, cultural, historical, and touristic significance,” said Minister Bajracharya.

Mayor Laba Shrestha of Manthali Municipality announced plans to work with provincial and central governments to transform Manthali into a tourist hub. Efforts are underway to connect Manthali Airport, a gateway to the Khumbu region, with tourist spots like Khadadevi, Sailung, and Kalinchowk.

Mayor Shrestha also emphasized Manthali’s strategic location as a midpoint linking India and China through Nepal. The municipality aims to leverage various tourism forms—literary, agricultural, forest, cultural, and natural—to boost local development. Collaborative efforts at local, provincial, and central levels herald a bright future for Manthali as a burgeoning tourist destination.
