The 19th edition of the Asare Ropain Festival, an annual event aimed at promoting tourism in Pokhara, will be held on Ashadh 15 at Margi, Ward 23, of Pokhara Metropolitan City.
During a press conference yesterday, it was announced that preparations for the festival, organized by the Pokhara Tourism Council, are in full swing. The main management committee for the festival has been formed under the coordination of the Council’s Vice President, Taranath Pahari. Hariram Adhikari and Jeevan Raj Sapkota have been appointed as co-coordinators.
Council President Pomanarayan Shrestha highlighted that the festival will feature activities such as mud games, fish catching, a saune competition, tug-of-war, and a mud race, with participation from both domestic and international tourists.
The organizers estimate that over 10,000 people will participate in the festival. Separate competitions for domestic and international male and female tourists will be held as part of the mud race events. Various cultural performances will also be showcased during the festival.
Coordinator Pahari mentioned that the festival aims to attract the new generation to rice farming by demonstrating traditional rice planting methods at a time when interest in rice cultivation, Nepal’s primary food crop, is declining.
