A two-day fair is set to be held at the renowned Ichchhakamana Temple premises in Ichchhakamana Rural Municipality–5, Chitwan, with the aim of promoting religious and cultural tourism in the region. According to Ram Prasad Bohora, Chairperson of the Ichchhakamana Temple Conservation Committee, the fair will feature various cultural programs showcasing Nepal’s diverse traditions. He also shared that both national and local artists from different genres will perform during the event, creating an atmosphere of festivity and cultural exchange.
A Longstanding Tradition of Faith and Celebration
Every year, a grand fair is organized at Ichchhakamana Temple on the occasion of Panchami. Devotees gather overnight to participate in religious festivities that include traditional rituals, prayers, and offerings the following morning. The event holds deep cultural and spiritual importance for the local community. Recognizing its significance, the Ichchhakamana Rural Municipality has, in recent years, declared the day a public holiday to allow residents and pilgrims to participate fully in the celebration.

A Sister Shrine of the Renowned Manakamana Temple
Located directly north of the famous Manakamana Temple in Sahid Lakhan Rural Municipality of Gorkha, the Ichchhakamana Temple shares a mythological connection with it. According to legend, Ichchhakamana Devi is one of the seven divine sisters of Goddess Manakamana. Devotees believe that worshipping at Ichchhakamana fulfills one’s heartfelt wishes, and childless couples are especially drawn here with the faith that the goddess blesses them with offspring. This ancient belief continues to attract pilgrims from various parts of Nepal and neighboring India, keeping alive centuries-old spiritual traditions.
A Hidden Gem of Religious and Natural Tourism
Nestled at an elevation of approximately 1,800 meters above sea level, Ichchhakamana Temple is surrounded by dense forest and natural beauty, offering a tranquil retreat for visitors. During the months of Fagun and Chaitra, the hills surrounding the temple come alive with vibrant rhododendron blossoms, painting the landscape in hues of red and pink. On clear days, visitors can enjoy panoramic views of the majestic Himalayan ranges, including Manaslu, Ganesh Himal, and Machhapuchhre. These features make Ichchhakamana not just a site of spiritual devotion but also a potential hub for eco and cultural tourism in central Nepal.
Growing Influx of Domestic and Indian Tourists
With the completion of temple reconstruction, improvements in drinking water, electricity, and other physical infrastructure have significantly enhanced accessibility and comfort for visitors. Chairperson of Ichchhakamana Rural Municipality, Dan Bahadur Gurung, stated that the flow of religious tourists has increased notably in recent years, with a growing number of Indian devotees also visiting the temple.
Visitors can reach Ichchhakamana using the Fishling–Shaktikhor and Muglin–Tamin road routes, both of which connect the site to major highways and nearby settlements. On weekends and public holidays, the temple premises often overflow with pilgrims, families, and picnic-goers enjoying the scenic environment and spiritual ambiance.
A Blend of Faith, Culture, and Nature
The upcoming two-day fair aims to celebrate this unique blend of nature, devotion, and local culture. By combining traditional worship rituals with music, dance, and cultural exhibitions, the event seeks to draw both religious pilgrims and general tourists, highlighting Ichchhakamana’s potential as a holistic destination.

Local authorities hope that such events will not only strengthen community ties but also contribute to sustainable tourism growth in the region. “The Ichchhakamana Temple area has immense potential for promoting faith-based tourism,” said Chairperson Gurung. “With continued investment in infrastructure and cultural programs, we can attract more visitors while preserving our traditions.”
Towards a New Chapter in Religious Tourism
As Nepal continues to diversify its tourism landscape, religious destinations like Ichchhakamana Temple play an increasingly vital role in connecting spirituality with community development. The fair, featuring local cuisine, cultural dances, and devotional music, is expected to showcase the richness of Chitwan’s heritage and encourage more visitors to explore the temple’s spiritual and natural beauty. With the upcoming festival, Ichchhakamana is once again set to echo with prayers, drums, and laughter, reminding everyone that in Nepal, faith and festivity often walk hand in hand.
