The 22nd Himalayan Whitewater Challenge, an adventurous rafting competition held on the Bhote Koshi River, has concluded successfully. Organized by the Nepal Association of Rafting Agencies (NARA) in Sindhupalchok’s Bhote Koshi River, the national-level event wrapped up today.
The national open competition, held in collaboration with the Nepal Tourism Board and the Ministry of Culture, Tourism, and Civil Aviation, Bagmati, featured two categories: rafting and kayaking.
Bhote Koshi Adventure Club clinched the rafting title, completing the designated eight-kilometer distance at Sukute in 29 minutes and 51 seconds. Rafting Star secured second place with a time of 31 minutes and 7 seconds, while Tribhuvan Army Club ‘A’ finished third, covering the distance in 31 minutes and 34 seconds.
The winning club received a cash prize of NPR 40,000, along with a trophy, medals, and certificates. The second and third-place clubs were awarded NPR 20,000 and NPR 10,000 respectively, along with trophies, medals, and certificates. A total of 14 teams participated in the rafting event.
In the kayaking category, Surendra Maji emerged victorious, completing the course in 30 minutes and 51 seconds. Krishna Khadka finished second with a time of 30 minutes and 54 seconds, while Bijaya Maji secured third place, completing the distance in 31 minutes and 3 seconds. They were awarded cash prizes of NPR 20,000, NPR 10,000, and NPR 5,000 respectively, along with medals and certificates. The kayaking competition saw the participation of 24 athletes.
NARA President Shiva Adhikari stated that the competition aimed to promote Nepal’s rafting industry on an international level and to convey that Nepal is a safe destination for adventure sports.
