The 28th Annual General Meeting of the Kathmandu Environment Education Project (KEEP) was successfully held, emphasizing the importance of eco-tourism in Nepal. During the inaugural session, Nepal Tourism Board’s Vice Chairman, Ram Prasad Sapkota (Kamal), highlighted the significance of operating companies with a focus on eco-tourism. He remarked, “Although it is challenging to implement true eco-tourism in Nepal, KEEP has been consistently providing essential training to tourism entrepreneurs like us and guiding professionals for many years.”
Sapkota praised KEEP’s efforts in offering training programs such as first aid courses and English language classes for trekking guides, noting the importance of these initiatives for the tourism sector. He also extended his congratulations and best wishes to the organizations and individuals who have contributed to KEEP’s mission.
KEEP Chairman Devi Prasad Pant provided updates on various programs led by the organization, including its initiatives in education, healthcare, drinking water, and environmental conservation in several tourism districts.
The inaugural session was attended by representatives from the Trekking Agencies Association of Nepal (TAAN), the Nepal Association of Tour and Travel Agents (NATTA), and other prominent figures from the tourism industry, who shared their good wishes and insights.
During the program, conducted by KEEP’s General Secretary Pitambar Gurung, organizations and individuals who have partnered with and contributed to KEEP were honored for their support.
In the closed session following the inauguration, the general meeting re-elected Devi Prasad Pant as the President of KEEP for a second consecutive term. The new executive committee was also selected, with Ramkumar Puri as Vice President, Pitambar Gurung as General Secretary, Nabaraj Amagai as Secretary, and Rishi Prasad Nepal and Mina Sherpa as Treasurers. Gopi Shrestha, Dr. Dilbahadur Tamang, Namgyal Jangbu Sherpa, Palsang Sherpa, and Baburam Karki were appointed as committee members.
KEEP has long been dedicated to promoting environmentally friendly tourism practices in Nepal.
