Nepal Airlines Captain Vijaya Lama Banned from Flying by Civil Aviation Authority

The Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN) has prohibited Captain Vijaya Lama of Nepal Airlines from flying due to repeated violations of safety regulations.

A few days ago, CAAN banned both Captain Vijaya Lama and Captain Bhawana Pant from operating flights, citing their engagement in activities that jeopardized flight and passenger safety.

Following this, the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) and CAAN established a three-member investigation committee led by Bikramraj Gautam, Director of the Aviation Safety Department. The committee was tasked with investigating the non-compliance with CAAN’s established standards and recommendations.

CAAN spokesperson Hansraj Pandey confirmed that the investigation led to Captain Bhawana Pant being cleared of any wrongdoing, and she was subsequently released from the ban.

“Captain Lama is still under investigation,” stated Pandey. “If flight safety violations are confirmed, action will be taken according to the Civil Aviation Authority Act 2053.”

This development underscores the CAAN’s commitment to enforcing strict safety regulations and maintaining high standards in Nepal’s aviation sector.
