Six people were killed Thursday morning when a helicopter crashed in India’s Uttarkashi district. To begin rescue efforts, the police and disaster management teams have arrived at the scene of the crash.

The private company Aero Trinks was operating the helicopter when it crashed close to Gungani, which is not close to Uttarkashi. Six of the seven passengers perished in the collision, and one was hurt.

Many pilgrims are currently traveling to Kedarnath, Badrinath, and Gangotri-Yamunotri as part of Uttarakhand’s Char Dham pilgrimage. The majority of travelers use helicopters, but some walk.

Light to moderate rainfall is expected in Dehradun, Uttarkashi, Chamoli, Rudraprayag, Tehri, Pauri, Nainital, and Champawat, according to a warning issued by the weather service for Uttarakhand. Strong winds and thunderstorms are also anticipated in a number of locations.

A helicopter transporting pilgrims from Badrinath to Dehradun was forced to make an emergency landing at the Gopeshwar sports ground on May 5 due to inclement weather. The helicopter landed for roughly five minutes before continuing on its way to Dehradun.
