Tasna Dhuri of Gurja: A Hidden Himalayan Gem Awaiting Tourists

Tourists are welcome at Tasna Dhuri in Dhaulagiri Rural Municipality-1, Gurja. Due to a lack of infrastructure and promotion, Tasna Dhuri, which is well-known for its views of mountain ranges, sunrises, hilly terrain, and peaceful atmosphere, is still often ignored. At 3,200 meters above sea level, it provides a close-up look at the Annapurna, Dhaulagiri, and Gurja Himalayas.

Few tourists come to Tasna Dhuri, according to local Tulsi Chantyal. Gurja is a popular destination for tourists who want to experience the distinctive customs, culture, and way of life of the Chantyal minority. In Gurja, the mountains are obscured by hills, making it impossible to see them up close. Tourists will probably stay longer if they are brought up to Tasna,” he said.

From Gurja, it takes an hour to hike to Tasna Dhuri. It is situated above the village on a steep slope. Rhododendrons bloom in the spring, and the buki plant adds color to the hills during the monsoon. Cattle, sheep, and goats have seasonal animal sheds at Tasna Dhuri’s Buki Patan, a grazing field.

Beni resident Narayan Sharma, who recently traveled to Gurja, said that the mountainous hike to Tasna Dhuri was revitalizing and helped him forget his uphill fatigue. He said that nature lovers would love Tasna Dhuri.

In order to encourage longer visitor stays in Gurja, infrastructure is being developed to promote as a secondary destination. According to Ward Chair Jhak Chantyal, a budget of Rs. 1 million has been set aside this fiscal year under the Prime Minister Employment Program to build a foot trail from Nailibari in Gurja to Tasna Dhuri.

Twenty young people without jobs were organized to construct a 3.5-kilometer trail, improving the customary route that the community used to gather firewood and grass. The new trail, which has steps made of stone and earth, makes the trip safer by removing the possibility of getting lost or traveling along a cliff.

There are still traces of ancient society in Gurja village, which is rich in vegetation, social culture, and varied mountain and hilly terrain. Dhorpatan, Gurja Himal, Putha, Churen base camps, Dolpa, and Eastern Rukum are all accessible from Gurja.
