The Dharan-Dhankuta road has been obstructed due to landslides and flooding following incessant rainfall, causing significant disruption for tourists and locals alike. According to Rajbabu Maharjan, the Spokesperson at the District Police Office in Dhankuta, vehicular movement has been halted since this morning due to a landslide at Sagurigadhi-6 of Dhankuta.
The landslides occurred at multiple locations, including Phedi, Ghante, and the Namaste waterfall area, covering the road with stones and mud. Additionally, flooding in the Garjuwa stream has exacerbated the situation, making the road impassable.
Efforts are underway to clear the debris and resume vehicular movement, but continuous rainfall poses a risk of further landslides. Maharjan urged travelers to exercise caution and consider alternative routes as the situation remains precarious.
Meanwhile, in Dharan sub-metropolitan city, over 10 houses are at risk due to flooding. Murari Bhattarai, the Chairperson of Dharan sub-metropolis-16, conducted an onsite inspection and reported that two families most vulnerable to the disaster have been relocated to relatives’ and neighbors’ homes. Efforts to move additional families to safer locations are ongoing, but the persistent rainfall is complicating these activities.
Tourists planning to visit the region are advised to take alternative routes and stay updated on the latest travel advisories. The Dharan-Dhankuta road is a vital link for tourists exploring the eastern part of Nepal, and the current obstruction highlights the need for preparedness and caution during the monsoon season.
