Establishment of Tourist Police Desk in Halesi for Multifaith Pilgrims

In Halesi, a significant religious confluence site for Hindus, Buddhists, and Kirants, a Tourist Police Assistance Desk (Desk) has been established to provide coordinated support, facilitation, and security to domestic and international tourists. Under the management of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Law of Koshi Province, the District Police Office has set up this Desk with training from the Provincial Police, led by Deputy Superintendent of Police Purushottam Khadka.

According to Khadka, the Desk comprises three police officers led by an Inspector, tasked with patrolling tourist sites, providing necessary information, ensuring tourist safety, and coordinating assistance during emergencies. Khadka emphasized that the Desk will take action against unauthorized activities such as guiding tourists without permission and other misconduct.

“If any information regarding criminal offenses against tourists comes to light, we will collaborate with the respective consulates and take necessary actions through local police,” added DSP Khadka.

Gajurman Rai, Chairperson of the Halesi Temple Management Committee, highlighted the peaceful and secure environment maintained with the establishment of the Tourist Police Desk, as Halesi hosts the month-long Bolbam Festival every July, attracting thousands of devotees, pilgrims, and tourists annually.

Kamal Giri, spokesperson of Tuvachung Municipality and Chairperson of Ward No. 7, assured organized management of the festival through volunteer mobilization from the municipality. He pointed out that the festival sees participation from Nepal and neighboring countries like India, China, Bhutan, Bangladesh, and South Korea.

With the integration of various districts and the connection to the Terai through Mid-Hill highways, Halesi has witnessed an increase in visitor numbers, facilitated by the recently paved road section. Local authorities stress the importance of maintaining order and have deployed a security team led by DSP Khadka to ensure the smooth operation of the festival.

Known globally for its natural and religious significance, Halesi’s tri-faith heritage is complemented by its stunning natural beauty. It features various caves and waterfalls such as the Basaha and Mahadev Caves, nestled amidst dense forests. The breathtaking view of the sky from approximately 50 meters inside the Basaha Cave showcases nature’s gift of natural beauty to visitors.
