According to local resident Shambhu Kunwar, Jantidhunga is not only a visually stunning location but also carries deep religious importance. Folklore holds that Lord Bethanchowk Narayan once promised to marry Panchakanya Devi, who resided at this very location. However, when he failed to fulfill the promise, the groom and all the wedding guests were turned into stone, giving rise to the name “Jantidhunga” (meaning “Wedding Rock”). Visitors can still see rows of rock formations, said to represent the wedding party, for which stairs have been built to make the site more accessible.
Plans for Infrastructure Development
To further enhance the site’s appeal, the local ward office is planning to build a statue of Lord Buddha on the flat area above Jantidhunga. In addition, the construction of stairs leading up to the spot has been included in the development plans. Reaching Jantidhunga is relatively easy for those living in or visiting Kavrepalanchok District. From Banepa, one can travel through Janagal, Bhainsepati, and Basdol, passing the Budhaganesh Temple before covering the nine-kilometer journey to the destination. Another route leads from Panauti Bus Park via Chamkhar. Both routes offer scenic drives through rural landscapes, with glimpses of terraced fields, traditional houses, and mountain views along the way.
