Monsoon Impact Continues with Cloudy Weather and Rainfall Forecast

The Department of Hydrology and Meteorology’s Weather Forecasting Division has issued its latest bulletin highlighting the prevailing monsoon conditions across Nepal. According to the forecast, the monsoon remains slightly weak at present, but its interaction with local winds has resulted in cloudy conditions in several provinces. People residing in Koshi Province and most of the hilly belts across the nation are likely to witness cloudy skies during the afternoon hours, accompanied by rainfall activities in specific areas.

The Division noted that although the monsoon circulation is not at its strongest, the combined influence of local winds and seasonal humidity has been sustaining unstable weather conditions. As a result, citizens are advised to remain cautious, particularly in provinces where moderate to heavy rainfall has been predicted.

Chances of Rainfall in Multiple Provinces

The monsoon bulletin further stated that moderate rainfall is likely in some parts of Koshi, Madhes, and Bagmati Provinces, along with several hilly areas of Gandaki Province. Other provinces may also experience sporadic showers, though the intensity will remain comparatively lower.

Among the regions most affected, Koshi and Bagmati Provinces are expected to witness heavier precipitation than other areas. The Division specifically warned of heavy rainfall in one or two places in both provinces. Such weather events could trigger localized flooding, waterlogging in urban settlements, and minor landslides along rural hilly roads.

With the rainfall forecast aligning with the typical late monsoon season pattern, residents of flood-prone and landslide-sensitive areas have been advised to adopt precautionary measures. Farmers in these regions may also find the rainfall beneficial for paddy and seasonal crops, though excessive downpours could damage ripened produce awaiting harvest.

Evening and Nighttime Forecast

Looking ahead to tonight, the Weather Forecasting Division expects generally cloudy weather in Bagmati and Gandaki Provinces. The rest of the country will see partial cloud coverage, ensuring cooler temperatures in most regions. The nighttime forecast indicates a chance of moderate rainfall in a few places of Gandaki Province and one or two locations in other hilly regions, including the Tarai belt.

While these showers are not predicted to be widespread, they may cause sudden disruptions to daily activities, especially in areas with vulnerable infrastructure. Motorists and commuters are urged to remain careful, as slippery roads and reduced visibility could create safety hazards.

Weak Monsoon with Localized Impacts

Meteorologists have explained that the monsoon circulation, though weaker at present, still possesses the capacity to generate localized heavy rainfall events. The partial influence of local winds is contributing to the afternoon cloud buildup and sporadic precipitation patterns across Nepal.

Such conditions are typical during this phase of the monsoon, as the season gradually weakens toward its withdrawal stage. However, officials cautioned that even a weak monsoon can cause severe impacts if heavy rainfall occurs in sensitive zones such as river valleys, steep slopes, or densely populated urban corridors.

Advisory to the Public

Given the forecast, authorities have appealed to citizens, especially those living in Koshi and Bagmati Provinces, to stay updated with weather bulletins. Travelers heading toward hilly districts are encouraged to check road conditions in advance and avoid unnecessary risks during heavy rain.

Farmers are advised to manage their crops carefully, ensuring drainage systems in paddy fields and vegetable farms are not blocked. This will help minimize losses in case of prolonged or intense rainfall. Similarly, residents in urban centers should take care of waterlogging issues, particularly in areas with poor drainage facilities. The Division also reminded the public that weather conditions during the late monsoon season can change quickly. Therefore, regular monitoring of forecasts remains crucial.

The current weather forecast suggests a continuation of cloudy skies and moderate rainfall in many provinces, with higher risks of heavy showers in Koshi and Bagmati. While the overall monsoon remains weak, its partial interaction with local winds will maintain unstable weather for the coming hours.

The Department of Hydrology and Meteorology assured that it will continue to monitor developments closely and issue timely updates. Citizens are encouraged to remain alert and take precautionary steps to ensure safety, especially in flood-prone and landslide-prone areas.
