In an effort to promote Mundhum Trail and boost adventure tourism, three local units of Bhojpur, Ramprasad Rai, Hatuwagadhi, and Aamchok Rural Municipalities, have announced a joint organization of the ‘Mundhum Trail Ultra Race’. The race aims to highlight the region’s natural beauty, traditional culture, and community identity while offering a platform for athletes from Nepal and abroad.
A joint meeting held on Monday in Balankha, organized by Aamchok Municipality, provided detailed information about the upcoming competition, which is scheduled from Mangsir 20 to 22.

Race Route and Organization
The ultra trail race will cover approximately 65 kilometers, starting from Kopche, Hatuwagadhi-9, passing through Bayang–Thamdanda in Aamchok, and continuing through Pamkhang–Bhanjyang–Kapase–Selme–Panchdhare–Tawabhanjyang in Ramprasad Rai Rural Municipality.
Hatuwagadhi chairperson Premkumar Rai emphasized that the three municipalities have drafted a comprehensive action plan to ensure the event is conducted effectively, safely, and systematically. Measures will include proper route marking, security arrangements, and coordination with local communities to facilitate both participants and spectators.
Tourism and Sports Integration
According to Ramprasad Rai chairperson Thambahadur Rai, the Mundhum Ultra Trail Race is designed to integrate sports with tourism, fostering both community development and adventure tourism in Bhojpur. By organizing the event, local authorities aim to showcase the region’s rich culture, local cuisine, and traditional lifestyle to a wider audience, attracting both national and international visitors.
Aamchok chairperson Ashok Rai added that the participation of elite runners from across Nepal and abroad is expected, further enhancing the race’s visibility. The event is intended not just as a sporting competition but as a cultural showcase, promoting the heritage of the Mundhum Trail and surrounding communities.
Budget and Infrastructure Development
To successfully conduct the race, the three municipalities have allocated NPR 5 lakh each, totaling NPR 15 lakh. Currently, the Greater Mundhum Trail is undergoing construction and improvement across all three municipalities.
Local officials expressed confidence that the development of the trail will position Bhojpur as an attractive destination for adventure tourism, providing long-term economic and cultural benefits to the region. The race will also serve as a model for combining community participation, tourism promotion, and sporting excellence.

The Mundhum Trail Ultra Race is expected to boost local employment, promote traditional crafts, and generate tourism revenue. Authorities believe that such initiatives will establish Bhojpur as a hub for trekking, trail running, and cultural tourism, drawing visitors year-round.
By leveraging the natural landscape, local knowledge, and community engagement, the event represents a strategic step toward sustainable tourism development in the region. The municipalities hope that the race will not only encourage adventure sports but also enhance awareness of Bhojpur’s unique heritage nationally and internationally.
