The Manaslu trekking route in northern Gorkha has been reopened for public access after being closed since last Thursday due to heavy snowfall, rainfall, and increased landslide risk. Acting Chief District Officer Chitrangat Baral of the District Administration Office, Gorkha, confirmed that authorities decided to reopen the trail following weather forecasts indicating gradual improvement.
Safety Measures for Trekkers
Authorities have requested all trekkers to carry essential information and guidance from path leaders while using the trail. “The route has been reopened based on forecasts from the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology indicating improving conditions,” said Baral. He also advised trekkers to seek information from the Manaslu Conservation Area or nearby security posts if they encounter any difficulties during their journey.

Conservation Office Emphasizes Precaution
Santosh Sherchan, Chief of the Manaslu Conservation Area Project (MCAP) in Gorkha, urged trekkers to monitor weather updates and take extra precautions, as some sections of the trail have been damaged by heavy rainfall. “Most of the trail is currently open, but certain areas have accumulated snow or have deteriorated paths, so caution is necessary,” he said.

The recent heavy snowfall and rain had previously forced several trekkers visiting the Manaslu region to turn back mid-journey, highlighting the importance of preparedness and safety awareness in high-altitude trekking areas.
Authorities Stress Responsible Trekking
Officials emphasized that trekkers should follow trail guidance, remain alert to changing weather, and avoid risky sections to ensure a safe trekking experience. The reopening of the Manaslu route marks a positive step for tourism recovery in the region while prioritizing safety and environmental preservation.
