The much-anticipated Bandipur Festival officially begins today at the scenic hilltop town of Bandipur in Tanahun district, aiming to promote tourism, local culture, and economic activity. Organized by the Tanahun Chamber of Commerce, the festival runs under the theme “Promotion of Industry, Trade and Tourism: Conservation of Local Arts and Culture” and will continue until December 7.

Festival Aims to Attract 200,000 Visitors

The organizing committee expects an overwhelming footfall during the eight-day event.
Chairman of the Chamber’s Dumre Unit, Ghanashyam Upadhyay, said that they anticipate more than 200,000 visitors, including domestic travelers, international tourists, and locals from neighboring districts.

According to Upadhyay, the festival is projected to generate up to Rs 50 million in transactions, making it one of the most economically significant events for the region this year. “Bandipur has always been a favorite destination for visitors. Through this festival, we aim to showcase its beauty, heritage, and tourism potential to the world,” he added.

Promoting Bandipur’s Cultural and Natural Heritage

Nestled on a ridge overlooking the Marsyangdi Valley, Bandipur is renowned for its preserved Newari architecture, clean environment, and panoramic Himalayan views. The festival seeks to highlight these unique features while encouraging responsible tourism.

Visitors will be taken on guided tours to major tourist attractions such as:

  • Thanimai Temple
  • Chamundamai Temple
  • Bhutyaha Baraha Site
  • Santaneshwor Temple
  • Mani Mukunda Sen Durbar
  • Raniban (Queen’s Forest)
  • Khadga Devi Temple

These tours are designed to help visitors experience Bandipur’s spiritual, historical, and natural richness.

Adventure Activities to Draw Young Travelers

One of the major highlights of this year’s festival is the inclusion of adventure sports, which organizers hope will attract young tourists and thrill-seekers.

The festival features:

  • Paragliding from scenic viewpoints above the valley
  • Rock climbing on Bandipur’s naturally formed cliffs

“These activities will not only offer unique experiences but also promote Bandipur as an adventure tourism hub,” Upadhyay said.

Showcase of Agriculture, Handicrafts, and Local Enterprises

The Bandipur Festival also aims to support local businesses, farmers, and artisans by providing them with a platform to showcase their products. A wide variety of stalls have been set up at Tundikhel, the central venue of the festival.

Key exhibits include:

  • Agricultural products from Tanahun and neighboring districts
  • Traditional handicrafts
  • Local food items
  • Sales points for hotel, restaurant, and tourism service providers

The festival will serve as a marketplace where visitors can purchase organic produce, handmade crafts, and local delicacies while helping uplift small and medium enterprises.

Cultural Performances to Celebrate Local Heritage

Throughout the festival, the stage at Tundikhel will come alive with cultural performances that reflect the region’s diversity. Folk dances, musical shows, traditional Newari cultural acts, and ethnic performances will entertain visitors and promote the cultural identity of Tanahun. Local artists, school groups, and cultural organizations are set to participate, making the event both entertaining and educational.

Bandipur Expected to Receive Major Tourism Boost

The festival comes at a time when Nepal’s tourism sector is gradually recovering, with domestic tourism playing a significant role. Organizers believe that the event will significantly boost Bandipur’s visibility as a must-visit destination.

Local entrepreneurs, hotel operators, and tourism stakeholders have expressed enthusiasm, hoping that the increased flow of visitors will contribute to the region’s economic growth. Chairman Upadhyay emphasized that the festival is not only an economic event but also a cultural celebration. “Our ultimate goal is to promote Bandipur as a model tourist destination where heritage, culture, trade, and natural beauty harmoniously coexist,” he said.

With its blend of cultural heritage, scenic beauty, adventure sports, and local entrepreneurship, the Bandipur Festival 2025 is all set to leave a lasting impression on visitors while strengthening the region’s reputation as one of Nepal’s most charming tourism hubs.
