Regal Hotels International has announced that it will provide free lodging to victims of Wednesday’s devastating Tai Po fire, joining other hoteliers and corporate donors in extending urgent support to those affected by the tragedy. The fire, which tore through seven apartment blocks at Wang Fuk Court, has left thousands of residents homeless, with the death toll climbing to 94 and several hundred still reported missing.
Free Rooms and Meals Across the City
A spokesperson for Regal Hotels stated that 160 rooms across 12 of the company’s properties, including the Regal, Regala, and iClub brands, will be made available for free to fire victims for two weeks. In addition to accommodation, the hotels, some of which are pet-friendly, will provide complimentary meals to the displaced residents, following instructions from the hotel’s vice-chairman, Poman Lo.
Wider Support from Developers and Hoteliers
Regal Hotels is part of a broader humanitarian response by Hong Kong’s property and hospitality sector. Sun Hung Kai Properties, the city’s largest developer by market value, contributed HK$20 million (US$2.6 million) for emergency relief and offered 160 rooms in its Imperial hotel chain for the victims. Similarly, the Sino Group and its Ng Ting Fong Charitable Foundation pledged HK$20 million and made 160 rooms available across three hotels. To accommodate relief efforts, Sino also postponed the sales launch of 150 flats at One Park Place in Yau Tong.
New World Development joined in delaying the sale of 63 units at the Austin Bohemian project in Yau Ma Tei, ensuring that resources and attention could be focused on supporting displaced residents.
Hotels Providing Immediate Shelter
The properties offered by these companies include some of Hong Kong’s major hotels such as The Fullerton Ocean Park Hotel, the Royal Pacific Hotel, City Garden Hotel, Island Pacific Hotel, and the Conrad Hong Kong Hotel in Admiralty, a venture with Hilton Hotels. The provision of free rooms aims to provide immediate relief to victims, particularly families who have lost their homes, while helping the affected residents cope with the aftermath of the city’s most destructive fire in decades.

The collective efforts of Regal Hotels and other property developers highlight the crucial role of corporate philanthropy in crisis response. Beyond accommodation, donations and logistical support from these companies are aimed at meeting the urgent needs of the victims, including temporary shelter, meals, and essential services.
