Hotels and homestays in the Kawasoti region are actively joining a campaign to reduce plastic use, promoting eco-friendly tourism and sustainable practices across the area.
Local Hotels Embrace Plastic-Free Policy in Kawasoti
According to Fansram Mahato, Chairperson of the Nawalpur Tourism Committee, several prominent accommodations, including Tharu Gaun Resort, Tiger Tops Tharu Lodge, Temple Tiger, Nana Jungle Resort, Tharu Community Lodge, Himalaya Century, Hotel Nature Age, and Barauli Community Homestays, have implemented policies to minimize plastic usage.

These hotels and resorts are replacing plastic bottles with glass or fiber bottles and glasses, ranging from welcome beverages to in-room water supplies. While a few guests express hesitation regarding open or filtered water, the majority have welcomed the change, according to hotel management.
Comprehensive Steps to Eliminate Plastic
Ashik Gurung, Manager at Tiger Tops Tharu Lodge, explained that plastic has been completely removed from most daily-use items, including kitchenware and in-room amenities. He noted, however, that plastic bags from the market are still occasionally used in unavoidable circumstances.

Hotels in and around protected areas, as well as the mid-hill region, have prioritized this plastic-free initiative to safeguard both visitor health and the environment, management officials emphasized.
Sustainable Tourism and Environmental Benefits
The initiative is part of a broader effort to make tourism in Kawasoti more sustainable and environmentally responsible. By minimizing plastic waste, the hotels aim to protect local ecosystems and promote a culture of eco-conscious travel. Tourism officials hope that such practices will set a benchmark for other regions, encouraging widespread adoption of environmentally-friendly policies in Nepal’s tourism sector.
