The Nepal Tourism Board (NTB) and the Secretariat of Koshi Province Tourism Year 2082 have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to enhance institutional collaboration for the successful implementation of Koshi Province Tourism Year 2082. The agreement was formalized on December 15, 2025, marking a strategic step toward coordinated tourism development and promotion in the province.
The MoU was signed by Mr. Deepak Raj Joshi, Chief Executive Officer of the Nepal Tourism Board, and Dr. Indra Prasad Sapkota, Secretary at the Ministry of Tourism, Forest and Environment of Koshi Province. The signing ceremony was held in the presence of Hon. Mr. Sadananda Mandal, Minister of Tourism of Koshi Province, underscoring the provincial government’s commitment to positioning tourism as a key driver of economic growth.

Strategic Partnership for Tourism Development and Promotion
The agreement outlines a comprehensive framework for cooperation between NTB and the Koshi Province Tourism Year Secretariat. Central to the partnership is the joint effort to develop, diversify, and brand tourism destinations and products across Koshi Province. The collaboration aims to leverage NTB’s national and international marketing expertise alongside provincial-level planning and implementation mechanisms.
By aligning provincial tourism initiatives with national tourism strategies, the partnership seeks to enhance consistency in branding and messaging, ensuring that Koshi Province is effectively positioned within Nepal’s broader tourism identity.
Focus on Diversification and Product Development
A key emphasis of the MoU is tourism product diversification. Koshi Province, known for its rich natural landscapes, cultural heritage, and adventure tourism potential, offers opportunities across multiple tourism segments, including nature-based tourism, cultural and religious tourism, eco-tourism, and adventure activities.
Through joint planning and technical support, the agreement aims to identify and develop new tourism circuits and experiences while enhancing the quality of existing destinations. This approach is expected to extend tourist stays, increase visitor spending, and reduce seasonal fluctuations in tourism demand.
Capacity Building, Research, and Conservation
Beyond promotion, the MoU places strong emphasis on capacity building and research. NTB and the provincial authorities will collaborate on training programs, skill development initiatives, and knowledge-sharing platforms aimed at strengthening the capacity of local tourism entrepreneurs, service providers, and institutions.

The partnership also recognizes the importance of conserving Koshi Province’s natural, cultural, and heritage assets. Sustainable tourism development, environmental protection, and responsible visitor management are integral components of the agreement, ensuring that tourism growth does not compromise ecological balance or cultural integrity.
Tourism as a Pillar of Provincial Economic Growth
Tourism has been identified as a strategic sector for Koshi Province’s economic transformation. Through this collaboration, tourism is envisioned as a catalyst for local employment generation, investment attraction, and inclusive economic development. By improving destination readiness and market visibility, the initiative aims to create opportunities for small and medium enterprises, community-based tourism ventures, and youth and women entrepreneurs.
The MoU also seeks to facilitate investment by improving coordination between stakeholders, streamlining promotion efforts, and enhancing investor confidence in the province’s tourism potential.
Enhancing Visibility in National and Global Markets
One of the expected outcomes of the partnership is increased visibility and stronger positioning of Koshi Province in national, regional, and global tourism markets during Tourism Year 2082. Joint promotional campaigns, media engagement, and participation in international tourism fairs are expected to amplify the province’s presence and attract a wider range of visitors.
By combining NTB’s marketing networks with provincial initiatives, the collaboration aims to ensure that Koshi Province Tourism Year 2082 serves not only as a celebratory event but also as a long-term platform for sustainable tourism growth.

A Coordinated Path Forward
Analytically, the MoU represents a shift toward more integrated tourism governance, where national expertise and provincial implementation are aligned through formal institutional mechanisms. If effectively executed, the partnership could serve as a model for intergovernmental cooperation in tourism development across Nepal.
As preparations for the Koshi Province Tourism Year 2082 gain momentum, stakeholders expect this collaboration to translate strategic commitments into tangible outcomes, strengthening tourism infrastructure, enhancing destination appeal, and positioning Koshi Province as a competitive and sustainable tourism destination on the global map.
