The Nepal Mountaineering Association (NMA) has successfully conducted the final examinations of trainees who completed the Summer Skill Course under the Professional Mountain Guide Training Programme, implemented as per the newly approved curriculum of the Council for Technical Education and Vocational Training (CTEVT).
The final assessment was observed by NMA President Mr. Fur Gelje Sherpa, General Secretary Mr. Rajendra Bahadur Lama, and Secretary Mr. Chandan Thapa, reflecting the Association’s commitment to maintaining high professional standards in Nepal’s mountain guiding sector.

Training Held in Kathmandu and Darchula
The professional training programme was conducted from 13 August to 12 September 2025 in Kathmandu and at Lhayul Peak in Darchula District, Sudurpaschim Province. A total of fourteen trainees participated in the intensive course and successfully completed all academic and practical requirements.

Designed to develop technically competent and safety-oriented mountain guides, the training focused on mountaineering techniques, leadership skills, route planning, risk management, rescue operations and sustainable tourism practices.
Two-Day Final Examination Completed
The two-day final examination was organised at the NMA Secretariat in Nagpokhari, Naxal, and Sahid Park, Jagdol. The assessment evaluated both theoretical understanding and practical field performance of the trainees to ensure their readiness to work as professional mountain guides. Senior officials of the Association closely monitored the evaluation process, emphasising transparency, competency and international-standard assessment practices.

Joint Support from NTB and UNDP
The training programme was implemented with financial support from the Sustainable Tourism Project (STP), a joint initiative of the Nepal Tourism Board (NTB) and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP). The project aims to strengthen human resources in tourism, enhance employability and promote sustainable mountain tourism in Nepal.

Strengthening Nepal’s Mountain Guiding Sector
NMA officials stated that the programme represents a significant step toward producing skilled, safety-focused and internationally competitive mountain guides. By aligning training with the CTEVT-approved curriculum, the Association aims to standardize professional qualifications and improve service quality across Nepal’s mountaineering industry.
The successful completion of the Summer Skill Course is expected to contribute to safer expeditions, improved tourist confidence and stronger global recognition of Nepali mountain guides, reinforcing Nepal’s position as a premier mountaineering destination.
