Eastern Nepal’s emerging commercial center, Itahari, is set to welcome its first international hotel with the Ramada by Wyndham Itahari, signaling a major step in the region’s hospitality and tourism development. The new property brings the renowned mid-scale American hotel chain to the heart of the city, promising modern facilities and world-class service for both domestic and international travelers.
A Visionary Move by Desh Bandhu Basnet
The hotel is being spearheaded by Desh Bandhu Basnet (Ajit), who successfully launched Mercure Kathmandu last year. Basnet has now expanded his vision by introducing Ramada by Wyndham, marking the first time this international brand has entered eastern Nepal. According to Basnet, the hotel is expected to be fully operational within the next month, offering a total of 81 rooms, including 57 Deluxe Singles, 14 Deluxe Doubles, 2 Executive Rooms, 6 Junior Suites, and 2 premium Suites.

Modern Facilities Catering to All Needs
Designed to meet international standards, Ramada Itahari will be the first hotel in eastern Nepal to offer such a comprehensive range of facilities. Guests can enjoy a terrace bar, all-day dining restaurant, coffee shop, two banquet halls, meeting rooms, outdoor lounge, pool bar, swimming pool, gym, steam, and sauna facilities. The property is suitable for corporate meetings, weddings, and social events, providing a versatile venue for diverse gatherings.
The hotel is also expected to create direct employment opportunities for over 80 residents, contributing to the regional economy while supporting the growth of tourism and hospitality sectors.
Strategic Location Boosting Regional Tourism
Itahari’s strategic location near Biratnagar and its proximity to India’s Bihar and West Bengal states make it an ideal destination for business, social, and tourism activities. Basnet emphasized that the hotel would attract both Nepali and Indian visitors, serving as a hub for weddings, group tours, and conferences.
He further stated, “This hotel will play a key role in connecting eastern Nepal with global markets. The entry of an international chain will energize tourism in the region, encouraging visitors to explore nearby attractions like Bhedetar, Shree Antu, Koshi Tappu, and Ilam.”
Promoting Cultural and Religious Tourism
Beyond leisure and business, the hotel is expected to contribute to the promotion of religious tourism. Basnet highlighted that renowned sites such as Ramdhuni, Barahkshetra, Pindeshwor, and Chataradham will gain greater visibility on an international scale, attracting travelers who seek both spiritual and cultural experiences.
Building on a Decade of Hospitality Expertise
Desh Bandhu Basnet, with nearly a decade of experience in Nepal’s tourism sector, has played a pivotal role in elevating the country’s hospitality industry. Under his leadership, Mercure by Accor Kathmandu began operations on January 15, 2025, and within a year, he has successfully brought another international hotel brand to Nepal.

A Boost for Eastern Nepal’s Tourism Potential
The launch of Ramada by Wyndham Itahari is expected to not only enhance the city’s commercial and hospitality landscape but also strengthen eastern Nepal’s tourism potential. By providing international-standard accommodations and services, the hotel is likely to attract more domestic and foreign tourists, positioning Itahari as a key gateway for exploring the region’s natural, cultural, and religious attractions.
Basnet concluded, “With this project, we aim to increase tourist arrivals in eastern Nepal while promoting local destinations and heritage sites. Ramada by Wyndham Itahari will be a catalyst for the region’s tourism growth, offering a blend of luxury, convenience, and cultural connection for all visitors.”
With its world-class facilities, strategic location, and focus on both leisure and business travelers, Ramada by Wyndham Itahari is set to redefine hospitality in eastern Nepal, offering travelers an unparalleled international-standard experience while supporting the regional tourism and economic growth.
