First Snowfall of the Season in Northern Rasuwa Brightens Prospects for Tourism

Rasuwa district’s northern belt has witnessed the first snowfall of the season, with snow beginning to fall from early this morning across several high-altitude Himalayan areas, including Langtang, Gosainkunda, Nakthali, Pangsang, Hakudada, and Yarsa Bhanjyang. The snowfall has added fresh scenic beauty to these popular mountain destinations, raising expectations for a positive impact on winter tourism and local agriculture.

Langtang Area Covered in Snow

According to local residents, approximately one inch of snow has accumulated in the Langtang region, with snowfall extending up to Ghodetabela. Areas above Ramche have experienced a sharp drop in temperature, affecting daily life in the higher settlements. However, most residents of Langtang are currently in Kathmandu, and as a result, the snowfall has not caused major disruptions in the Langtang settlement itself, informed Ward Chairperson Dhindup Tamang of Gosainkunda Rural Municipality–4.

Tourism Appeal Expected to Rise

The fresh snowfall has significantly enhanced the natural appeal of the Langtang–Gosainkunda trekking route, one of Nepal’s most popular trekking destinations for both domestic and international tourists. Snow-covered landscapes, alpine trails, and panoramic mountain views are expected to attract adventure seekers, photographers, and nature lovers, especially as winter tourism gradually gains momentum.

Local tourism entrepreneurs believe that early snowfall helps promote off-season tourism, particularly among visitors seeking snow experiences close to Kathmandu. With improved road access and growing interest in short Himalayan getaways, the region is expected to see an increase in domestic tourist inflow in the coming weeks, weather permitting.

Health Advisory Issued Amid Rising Cold

As temperatures continue to drop due to snowfall and cold winds, the Rasuwa District Hospital has urged communities to remain cautious. Medical Superintendent Dr. Amit Kumar Shah warned that cold-related health issues could rise, particularly among senior citizens and children.

The hospital has advised residents to ensure the use of warm clothing, consume hot and nutritious liquid foods, and stay in smoke-free, warm environments to prevent respiratory and cold-related illnesses. Tourists traveling to higher elevations have also been advised to take proper cold-weather precautions.

Positive Outlook for Winter Crops

Meanwhile, light rainfall accompanying the snowfall is expected to gradually increase, allowing the soil to absorb moisture. Local farmer Yak Bahadur Limbu expressed optimism that the moist ground and increased soil coldness would have a positive effect on winter crops, improving agricultural productivity in the coming months.

Farmers believe that snowfall helps maintain soil moisture, reduces pests, and supports the healthy growth of winter crops, contributing to long-term agricultural sustainability in the region.

Long-Term Benefits for Tourism and Agriculture

Although the cold has intensified in Rasuwa’s northern areas, locals remain hopeful that the snowfall will create a favorable long-term environment for both tourism and agriculture. Snowfall not only enhances the scenic value of the Himalayas but also strengthens the region’s image as a premier mountain tourism destination, supporting local livelihoods dependent on trekking, hospitality, and related services.

Authorities have advised tourists to monitor weather updates and travel with proper preparation while enjoying the unique winter beauty of Langtang and Gosainkunda.
