Nepali mountaineer Omnika Dangol has successfully reached the summit of Aconcagua in Argentina, the highest peak in South America at 6,962 metres, marking her fifth climb in the prestigious Seven Summits challenge. The historic achievement brings her one step closer to completing one of mountaineering’s most celebrated feats.
Gruelling 26-Hour Summit Push
Dangol reached the summit at 3:40 pm (local time) on February 1, 2026. The final push from Camp 3 to the summit and back took an exhausting 26 hours, testing the limits of endurance for her and her team. They faced extreme freezing temperatures, powerful winds, and dangerously thin air at high altitude. On the descent, the expedition encountered a severe snowstorm and whiteout conditions, losing their route before safely returning to Camp 3.
“Despite the immense physical and mental challenges, Omnika stood strong,” said her team in a statement, praising her determination and resilience that helped them overcome the perilous conditions.
A Journey Defined by Historic Achievements
Omnika Dangol’s journey to Aconcagua is the continuation of a remarkable mountaineering career that began in 2021, when she trekked to Everest Base Camp and developed a profound love for the mountains. In 2022, she made history as the first flight attendant in the world to summit Mount Everest. She is also the first Nepali woman to climb Carstensz Pyramid, one of the Seven Summits.
Before Everest, Dangol achieved a remarkable feat by climbing Mera Peak, Lobuche, and Island Peak within just nine days, an early indicator of the speed, skill, and determination that would define her mountaineering career.
Progress in the Seven Summits Challenge
With Aconcagua now conquered, Dangol has successfully summited Everest, Mount Kilimanjaro, Carstensz Pyramid, and Aconcagua. She has two remaining peaks to complete the Seven Summits: Denali in North America and Mount Vinson in Antarctica. Her goal is not only a personal milestone but also an inspiration for aspiring mountaineers in Nepal and around the world.
