A mixed team of international climbers and Nepali guides, organized by Friends Adventure Team Pvt. Ltd., has become the first expedition to successfully summit Ama Dablam Ama Dablam (6,812m) in the Spring 2026 climbing season. The ascent follows the recently established route fixed earlier this month, officially opening the peak for climbers.
The team, operating under the Attitude Montagne Ama Dablam Expedition 2026, reached the summit under favorable weather conditions, marking a significant early-season achievement in Nepal’s mountaineering calendar.

Successful Summit and Safe Descent
According to Rajendra Bahadur Lama, Managing Director of the expedition organizer, all members of the summit team reached the top safely and are reported to be in good health. The team has already begun its descent following the successful climb.
The summit team included experienced Nepali mountain guides Nuru Wanchu Sherpa, Rohan Thapa Magar, and Lal Bir Tamang, alongside international climbers Nicolas Charles Tanner and Ariana Bronwen Thomas from the United States. Officials highlighted that the success reflects strong coordination between climbers and guides, as well as favorable climbing conditions during the early phase of the season.

Route Preparation Enabled Early Success
The achievement comes shortly after 8K Expeditions completed rope fixing to the summit of Ama Dablam on April 4, paving the way for expeditions to begin their ascent. The route preparation was led by Pasdawa Sherpa and a dedicated four-member rope-fixing team.
The timely completion of route fixing played a crucial role in enabling the first successful ascent of the season. Industry leaders credited the professionalism and efficiency of the rope-fixing team for ensuring safe and early access to the summit.
A Technically Demanding Himalayan Peak
Widely regarded as one of the most beautiful yet technically challenging peaks in the Himalayas, Ama Dablam attracts climbers seeking both adventure and technical climbing experience. The mountain requires a high level of skill, preparation, and mountaineering expertise due to its steep ridges and exposed sections. Climbing experts note that early-season ascents such as this set the tone for the rest of the climbing period, boosting confidence among expedition teams and operators.

Growing Interest in Ama Dablam Expeditions
According to data from the Department of Tourism released on April 10, a total of five expedition teams comprising 58 climbers have obtained permits to attempt Ama Dablam this spring season. The successful first ascent is expected to encourage further summit attempts in the coming weeks, as more climbers prepare to take advantage of the favorable weather window.
The first successful summit of Ama Dablam in Spring 2026 highlights Nepal’s continued strength in the global mountaineering industry. With efficient route preparation, skilled guides, and improved weather conditions, the season has begun on a positive note, reinforcing the country’s reputation as a premier destination for high-altitude climbing.
