The Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) will remain closed for seven hours daily until Jestha 4 to facilitate ongoing infrastructure development works, airport authorities have announced.
Night Closure Scheduled for Runway and Taxiway Upgrades
According to Induraj Adhikari, Chief of the Terminal Management Division at the airport, flight operations will be suspended daily from 11:45 PM to 6:30 AM. The closure has been scheduled to allow uninterrupted “pavement construction work” on key sections of the airside infrastructure. Adhikari said the decision has been taken to accelerate ongoing development works while ensuring safety standards during construction activities.
Taxiway Construction Underway Near Runway
Construction work is currently being carried out on the taxiway located adjacent to the main runway. Airport authorities stated that the nighttime closure is necessary due to safety concerns, as heavy construction activity takes place close to active flight zones. Officials emphasized that a full airport closure during night hours will help avoid operational risks and ensure the quality and speed of construction work.
Aim to Speed Up Infrastructure Development
In an official notice issued by the TIA, it was stated that the temporary closure is intended to accelerate infrastructure improvement works, particularly pavement upgrades and taxiway enhancements. The notice also highlighted that the airport administration is working to minimize disruptions caused by the closure. Airlines and aviation service providers have been requested to adjust their flight schedules accordingly.
Airlines Urged to Adjust Flight Schedules
The TIA authority has requested all airlines and aviation operators to reschedule flights in a way that reduces operational inconvenience for passengers during the construction period. Officials said coordination with service providers is ongoing to ensure that the impact on domestic and international travelers is kept to a minimum.
