Government Ready to Facilitate Cargo Business for Export Promotion: Deputy Prime Minister Prakashman Singh

In a recent event marking the 30th Cargo Day, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Urban Development Prakashman Singh assured that the government is prepared to make necessary policy and structural changes to ease the cargo business for promoting exports.

Addressing the gathering organized by the Nepal Freight Forwarders Association on Monday, Deputy Prime Minister Singh emphasized that the new government’s monetary policy demonstrates its commitment to encouraging entrepreneurship and business. He urged the government to promptly address any issues faced in the business sector.

During the event, Singh honored individuals and organizations that made significant contributions to Nepal’s cargo sector over the past year, including Sundar Prasad Dahal, Ashish Gajurel, Kythe Cargo, and Nepal Airlines.

Spearheading discussions, MP Ganesh Parajuli highlighted that as Nepal progresses from an underdeveloped to a developing nation, there is a risk of losing current export incentives. He urged the government to address this concern.

Hemraj Dhakal, Vice President of the Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI), pointed out that various impractical taxes are burdening the cargo business and called for their removal to incentivize the export sector.

Manoj Adhikari, President of the Freight Forwarders Association, recommended timely updates to the Multi-Modal Transport Act and regulations to meet current needs.

The event underscored the government’s commitment to enhancing the cargo sector’s role in export promotion and addressing the challenges faced by the industry.
