In an important step toward enhancing bilateral economic cooperation, high-level discussions were held in Lhasa focusing on expanding investment, trade, tourism opportunities in Nepal and further strengthening economic collaboration between Nepal and China.
The interaction program was recently organized by the Nepali Consulate General in Lhasa and brought together senior Chinese government officials, potential investors, business leaders, tourism entrepreneurs and other stakeholders to explore new avenues of economic partnership between the two neighboring countries.
Over 100 Participants Attend Investment and Trade Promotion Program in Lhasa
According to officials, the event saw participation from 113 representatives, including Executive Vice Chairman Zhao Peng of the Tibet Autonomous Regional Government, senior officials from various government agencies, Chinese investors currently operating in Nepal, prospective investors seeking opportunities in Nepal, Chinese traders engaged in Nepal-related commerce, Nepali entrepreneurs based in Lhasa and tourism sector representatives.

The program in Lhasa was chaired by Nepali Consul General Laxmi Prasad Niraula, with Consul Sabin Bhattarai presenting detailed information regarding Nepal’s growing opportunities in trade, tourism and foreign investment sectors. A promotional video showcasing Nepal’s investment climate, tourism potential and business prospects was also presented during the event.
Chinese Officials Encourage Greater Investment in Nepal
During the event, chief guest Zhao Peng highlighted the importance of the Nepali Consulate’s role in strengthening Nepal-China relations and emphasized the long-standing friendship between the two countries.

He stated that China and Nepal have consistently respected each other’s sovereignty, territorial integrity and independence while maintaining close diplomatic cooperation over the years.
Praising Nepal as a peaceful, beautiful and friendly nation, Zhao Peng encouraged Chinese entrepreneurs and investors to actively explore opportunities for tourism, business expansion and investment in Nepal. He also assured that the Tibet regional government remains ready to provide all necessary support to the Nepali Consulate in Lhasa.

Nepal Reaffirms Commitment to Strengthening Economic Ties with China
Speaking at the program, Consul General Laxmi Prasad Niraula expressed gratitude for the continuous goodwill, cooperation and assistance Nepal has been receiving from the Chinese government, the Tibet regional administration and the Chinese people.
He noted that Nepal-China relations have remained historically strong since the era of Bhrikuti and renowned artist Araniko, emphasizing that bilateral relations have always been built on trust, friendship and mutual cooperation.

Niraula reiterated Nepal’s firm commitment to the One China Policy, making clear that Nepali territory would never be allowed to be used against any friendly nation. He said the objective of the program was to directly inform Chinese institutions and investors about Nepal’s trade, tourism and investment potential while encouraging stronger economic partnerships.
Nepal Raises Border Infrastructure and Connectivity Concerns
Ahead of the main program, a courtesy meeting was also held between Executive Vice Chairman Zhao Peng and Consul General Niraula, where several bilateral concerns were discussed.

During the meeting, Nepal requested further cooperation in border infrastructure development, facilitation of import-export activities at border checkpoints, smoother movement for Nepali citizens living in Tibet, easier visa processing for Nepali nationals, and simplified Tibet entry permits.
Nepal also sought Chinese support for the restoration of the historic Saraswati Temple in Lhasa and the historic Bhimsen Temple in Shigatse using traditional Nepali architectural style.

China Signals Support for Border Cooperation and Heritage Restoration
Responding to Nepal’s concerns, Zhao Peng said Nepal and Tibet are connected not only through the Himalayan border and rivers but also by deep-rooted historical and cultural ties that have existed for centuries.
He assured China’s readiness to provide necessary cooperation on border management issues, support restoration initiatives for Saraswati and Bhimsen temples, and confirmed China’s willingness to move forward with the construction of a permanent bridge over the border river at Rasuwagadhi.
Officials say the discussions mark another positive development in Nepal-China relations and are expected to contribute toward expanding economic cooperation and improving connectivity between the two countries in the coming years.
