China-Nepal Exploration Tour Officially Launched to Boost Premium Tourism Cooperation

A major new chapter in Nepal-China tourism cooperation began on Saturday with the official launch of the “China-Nepal Exploration Tour”, a premium cultural-tourism project designed to strengthen bilateral tourism ties, improve cross-border connectivity, and position Nepal as a leading destination for high-end international travelers.

The official launch and press conference were held in Kathmandu in the presence of more than 120 distinguished guests representing government institutions, tourism organizations, aviation companies, cultural industries, and media from both Nepal and China.

The project is being jointly organized by Xi Zang Tourism Culture Industry Group, Iris Tourism Culture Industry Group, Nepal Panda International Travel and co-organized by South Asia Network TV.

Among the high-profile attendees were Suresh Shrestha, Ram Krishna Lamichhane, Jeevan Ram Shrestha, and Liu Zhanping, alongside representatives from aviation companies, industry associations, tourism entrepreneurs, and mainstream media from both countries.

Speaking at the launch event, participants described the initiative as a significant milestone in advancing people-to-people connectivity and deepening long-term cooperation between Nepal and China through tourism and cultural exchange.

Aviation Connectivity at the Center of the Initiative

The project has been launched under the theme “Aviation Empowers Stable Tourist Sources, Premium Cultural-Tourism Embarks on a New Journey,” with a broader focus on sustainable growth, mutual economic benefit, and long-term tourism development.

One of the key announcements made during the event was the introduction of regular premium charter flights between Shenzhen, China and Kathmandu, Nepal through Himalayan Airlines, alongside plans to gradually expand charter services from several major Chinese cities.

Project organizers said the initiative seeks to address long-standing challenges in Nepal’s tourism sector, including limited cross-border transportation capacity, seasonal fluctuations in tourist arrivals, fragmented tourist source markets, and inconsistent service quality.

Officials shared that the first exclusive Shenzhen-Kathmandu charter flight was successfully operated on June 5, 2026, marking the operational beginning of the project.

The charter service will now operate twice every week, every Thursday and Saturday, throughout the year, totaling 104 flights annually.

Each flight will carry approximately 177 passengers, with organizers estimating that the route alone could bring more than 18,000 high-end Chinese tourists to Nepal every year.

Expansion Plans Target Major Chinese Cities

Beyond the Shenzhen route, organizers announced plans to expand premium charter operations by utilizing long-term fixed seat allocations from major Chinese carriers including China Southern Airlines, Sichuan Airlines, and China Eastern Airlines.

Future charter operations are expected to expand into major Chinese source markets including Nantong, Hangzhou, and Qingdao.

According to project projections, these expanded routes could eventually provide nearly 6,000 cross-border airline seats every month, significantly improving Nepal’s direct connectivity with China.

Within the next three to five years, the project aims to facilitate 250,000 to 400,000 two-way cultural and tourism exchanges, creating what organizers described as a year-round uninterrupted China-Nepal air tourism corridor.

Premium Tourism Products Designed for High-End Travelers

Unlike traditional sightseeing-focused tourism packages, the China-Nepal Exploration Tour has been designed as a premium, high-value tourism product aimed at affluent international travelers seeking deeper cultural experiences.

The project includes four specially curated cultural-tourism packages, supported by a premium seven-day, six-night exclusive itinerary.

These packages cover a wide range of tourism experiences including Himalayan trekking adventures, cultural heritage exploration, wellness retreats around mountain and lake destinations, and cross-border educational exchange tours.

Organizers emphasized that the initiative introduces a significantly upgraded tourism model that prioritizes quality over volume.

The service model includes bilingual professional tour guides, closed-loop reception systems, standardized hospitality services, and compliant tourism consumption practices, ensuring visitors receive a seamless premium travel experience.

The project focuses on Nepal’s three major tourism destinations, Kathmandu, Pokhara, and Chitwan, which organizers believe will become the foundation of Nepal’s emerging high-end tourism market.

Economic Benefits Expected Across Nepal’s Tourism Industry

Officials said the long-term economic impact of the initiative could extend far beyond tourist arrivals.

With regular operations expected to continue year-round, the project is projected to create between 500 and 1,000 direct and indirect jobs across Nepal’s tourism sector.

Industry experts noted that the increase in premium visitors would generate sustained benefits for hotels, transportation companies, restaurants, tourist attractions, and creative industries linked to Nepal’s intangible cultural heritage.

The initiative is also expected to help address one of Nepal’s major tourism challenges by stimulating the off-season tourism market and reducing dependence on seasonal visitor trends.

In addition, organizers believe the project will encourage higher service standards, attract greater foreign investment into tourism infrastructure, and strengthen Nepal’s international reputation as a premium mountain tourism destination.

Strengthening Nepal-China Tourism Partnership

Organizers said that moving forward, all participating stakeholders will focus on expanding regular aviation capacity, further developing premium tourism offerings, strengthening collaboration between governments and private sector partners, and deepening cultural exchange between the two neighboring countries.

The China-Nepal Exploration Tour is being positioned as a benchmark model for modern tourism cooperation, with both countries aiming to create a sustainable long-term partnership that benefits travelers, businesses, and local communities alike.

With Nepal seeking to diversify and upgrade its tourism industry in the coming years, the launch of this ambitious cross-border initiative marks an important step toward building stronger international tourism partnerships and unlocking new economic opportunities for the country.
