Upper Mustang, one of Nepal’s most distinctive trans-Himalayan destinations, continued to attract international visitors in fiscal year 2082/83, with a total of 4,424 tourists from 75 countries exploring the region.
The figures indicate a continued rise in international tourist arrivals to the remote destination, renowned for its unspoiled landscapes, ancient Tibetan Buddhist culture, historic settlements and unique Himalayan heritage.

Indian Tourists Represent Largest Share
Among the international visitors, tourists from India accounted for the highest number, with 475 Indian nationals visiting Upper Mustang during the fiscal year. The arrival of visitors from 75 different countries highlights the growing international appeal of Upper Mustang as a destination offering a distinctive combination of natural beauty, cultural heritage and adventure tourism.

Tourist Arrivals Increase for Third Consecutive Year
Tourist arrivals in Upper Mustang have shown a steady upward trend over the past three fiscal years. The region received 3,443 international tourists in FY 2080/81. The number increased to 4,219 in FY 2081/82 before rising further to 4,424 in FY 2082/83. This represents an increase of 205 visitors compared to the previous fiscal year and 981 visitors compared to FY 2080/81.

Unspoiled Landscapes and Tibetan Heritage Draw Visitors
Upper Mustang continues to captivate travellers with its unique landscapes, ancient monasteries, traditional villages and rich Tibetan-influenced culture.
The region’s distinctive geography, including its barren yet spectacular mountain landscapes, along with centuries-old cultural traditions and historic settlements, has made it one of Nepal’s most sought-after destinations for international travellers. The continued increase in tourist arrivals reflects the growing global interest in Upper Mustang and its potential for sustainable, culture-based and adventure tourism.
