The Sustainable Tourism Project (STP), a joint initiative of the Nepal Tourism Board (NTB) and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Nepal, has signed a Low Value Grant Agreement (LVGA) with the Mountain Guide Association of Nepal (MoGAN) to implement a specialized Content Creation Training Program for licensed mountain guides, mountain leaders and trekking guides.
The agreement aims to strengthen the digital skills of tourism professionals and enable them to effectively promote Nepal’s mountains, trekking routes, culture and tourism experiences through digital and social media platforms.

50 guides to receive practical content creation training
Under the program, 50 participants will receive practical training in key areas of digital content production, including script writing, storytelling, photography, videography, video editing, on-camera presentation and social media management.
The training is designed to provide participants with hands-on knowledge and skills that can be directly applied in the field. Through the program, mountain and trekking guides will be able to create engaging and professional digital content based on their experiences, destinations and the communities they serve.
Priority to guides from three key trekking regions
Participants from the STP intervention areas, including the Api Saipal, Manaslu and Kanchenjunga trekking trails, will be given priority in the selection process.
The program will also promote inclusive participation by encouraging women, youth, Indigenous communities, Dalits, persons with disabilities and other marginalized groups to participate in the training.
Focus on promoting Nepal’s mountains, culture and trekking experiences
The training is expected to help guides become effective digital storytellers and destination promoters. By creating and sharing attractive content on social media, participants will be able to highlight Nepal’s diverse mountains, trekking routes, local culture, communities and authentic travel experiences.
The initiative aims to increase the visibility of Nepal’s emerging and established trekking destinations by utilizing the knowledge and first-hand experiences of local tourism professionals.
Digital skills expected to create new opportunities for local communities
The program is also expected to contribute to the broader development of community-based tourism. By strengthening the digital capacity of guides and tourism workers, the initiative aims to support destination promotion, attract more visitors and create new income-generating opportunities for local communities.

The initiative reflects the growing importance of digital media in tourism promotion and seeks to empower local tourism professionals to play a more active role in marketing Nepal’s diverse tourism products and trekking destinations.
Through the collaboration between NTB, UNDP Nepal and MoGAN, the Content Creation Training Program is expected to contribute to more inclusive, digitally empowered and community-oriented tourism development in Nepal.
