COMAC Completes First Test Flight of High-Altitude C919 Aircraft

The Commercial Aircraft Corporation of China (COMAC) has completed the first test flight of its high-altitude adapted C919 passenger aircraft, marking another significant milestone in the development of China’s domestically produced commercial jet programme.

According to COMAC, the specially modified aircraft successfully took off from and landed at Shanghai Pudong International Airport on 29 July, completing all scheduled flight test objectives during its maiden high-altitude test mission. The successful flight represents an important step toward expanding the operational capability of the C919, particularly for airports located in high-altitude regions where aircraft performance requirements are more demanding.

COMAC said the aircraft successfully carried out all planned flight test programmes during the mission, demonstrating the effectiveness of the modifications made for high-altitude operations. The completion of the maiden test flight is expected to support the next phase of certification and serial development of the high-altitude version of the C919. Aircraft Modified for High-Altitude Operations

To meet the demanding operational requirements of airports situated at higher elevations, COMAC has introduced several design improvements to the high-altitude variant of the C919. Compared with the standard version, the aircraft features a shortened fuselage, a modification intended to improve performance under reduced air density conditions commonly experienced at high-altitude airports.
