Malaysia Airlines has issued an important notice to travelers ahead of the country’s 69th National Day celebrations, alerting passengers to temporary airspace closures and consequent flight schedule changes at Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) during the peak travel period of 26 August to 6 September 2026.
Airspace to Close for Flypast Rehearsals
According to Malaysia Airlines, the Civil Aviation Authority of Malaysia (CAAM) has ordered a series of temporary closures within the Kuala Lumpur Terminal Control Area to allow rehearsals for the National Day Flypast 2026 to take place. As a result, scheduled takeoffs and landings at KLIA will be paused during set windows over several days:
- 26–28 August 2026: Rehearsals, 11:00 AM – 12:00 PM
- 29 August 2026: Full rehearsal, 8:45 AM – 9:45 AM
- 31 August 2026: National Day Flypast, 8:45 AM – 9:45 AM
Flights at KLIA Terminal 1 to Be Rescheduled
To work around these restrictions, the airline says a number of its flights arriving and departing from KLIA Terminal 1 will have their timings adjusted. Affected passengers will be informed of the new schedule through the contact information on their booking, and travelers are being urged to check their flight status on the Malaysia Airlines website or app before setting out for the airport.
Passengers Told to Arrive Four Hours Early
Because the disruption falls during Malaysian school holidays and what is expected to be a peak travel window, the airline anticipates unusually high passenger volumes at the airport. Those flying out of KLIA Terminal 1 are advised to get there at least four hours ahead of their scheduled departure, giving enough time to get through check-in, document checks, immigration, and security.
