The Airlines Operators Association of Nepal (AOAN) has expressed deep sorrow over the loss of lives and widespread damage caused by the unexpected flood in the Bhotekoshi River on August 26, 2026. The association said its member airlines are supporting rescue and relief efforts in the affected areas while continuing to maintain existing airfares despite a sharp rise in passenger demand on certain routes.
Condolences to Flood Victims, Commitment to Relief Efforts
In a press statement issued on August 27, the AOAN extended its heartfelt condolences to the Nepali and foreign tourists as well as members of the general public who lost their lives in the disaster. The association also expressed solidarity with the families of those affected by the sudden flooding and the extensive destruction caused in the region.
According to the association, several member airlines have been actively contributing to rescue operations in coordination with the authorities and other stakeholders. Airline helicopter services have also been involved in evacuating people stranded or affected by the disaster and transporting some victims to safer locations.
The AOAN said its member companies are not only assisting with search, rescue and evacuation but are also prepared to support relief activities by helping transport essential medical supplies and relief materials when required.
The association also acknowledged the efforts of security personnel and other rescue workers deployed in the affected areas.
The association stated that its member airlines remain committed to providing necessary assistance during the emergency. Helicopters operated by member companies have already been used to rescue and evacuate some affected individuals, demonstrating the aviation sector’s role in responding to emergencies in difficult and geographically challenging areas. The AOAN said it would continue working with the relevant authorities and contribute its available resources to humanitarian and rescue operations as the situation demands.
Airfares Remain Unchanged Despite High Demand
Alongside its rescue efforts, the association has also addressed concerns over air ticket prices amid increased demand on some routes following the disaster. The AOAN clarified that its member airlines are continuing to sell tickets at the fares prescribed by the government. Although passenger demand has increased significantly on certain sectors, the airlines have not raised ticket prices. The association said maintaining the existing fares during such a difficult period reflects the airlines’ humanitarian and social responsibility toward passengers and the wider public.
The AOAN has therefore urged passengers and the general public to understand that airlines are continuing to provide air services at the existing applicable fares despite the exceptional demand generated by the current circumstances.
