As flood affected communities across Nepal continue to deal with the aftermath of the disaster, major hospitality groups have stepped in with financial aid, food support and longer term assistance aimed at helping vulnerable families rebuild their lives. Soaltee Hotels & Resorts has contributed NPR 10.1 million to the government’s disaster relief fund, while Siddhartha Hospitality has committed to supporting the education and daily needs of children affected by the disaster in Rasuwa.
The two initiatives come as relief efforts increasingly move beyond immediate emergency assistance toward rehabilitation, education and long term recovery. While Soaltee’s contribution will support the government’s broader relief and rehabilitation mechanism, Siddhartha Hospitality is focusing on children whose schooling and family circumstances have been severely disrupted, including those who have lost parental support following the disaster.
Siddhartha Takes Long Term Focus On Children
Siddhartha Hospitality has committed to providing food for one year to disaster affected children who will stay at a hostel planned by Neelkantha Secondary School in the Betrabati area of Rasuwa. The support is intended to help children remain in school and maintain a stable routine at a time when many families in the affected area are struggling to restore normal life. A Siddhartha Hospitality team reached Betrabati with relief materials and food and held discussions with local representatives and organizations involved in relief and rehabilitation. During the visit, the team was briefed on the situation of children at Neelkantha Secondary School and the growing need to protect their education from being interrupted by the disaster in Nepal.
According to information provided by the school, around 600 students are enrolled, but approximately 200 students have yet to be contacted following the disaster. Some children have also been affected by the loss of their parents in Nepal, making their education, accommodation and protection an urgent concern. The school has consequently moved forward with plans for a hostel where affected children can live in a safer environment while continuing their studies.
Relief Efforts Shift Toward Recovery
Krishna Neupane, chief executive officer of Siddhartha Business Group of Hospitality, said the response to a disaster should not end with the distribution of immediate relief. He emphasized the need to prioritize children’s education, protection and future, arguing that assistance aimed at keeping children in school can have a lasting effect on families and communities recovering from a disaster.
Siddhartha Business Group of Hospitality has been conducting social initiatives through Siddhartha Association for Care and Responsibility, known as SAKAR, including health camps, blood donation programs, support for hospitals, hostels and elderly care facilities, education and skills development, environmental activities, and relief and rehabilitation during disasters. The group has said it will continue working through SAKAR to organize relief and rehabilitation support according to the needs of communities affected by the disaster, with its latest commitment placing particular emphasis on children whose education has been put at risk.
Soaltee Pledges NPR 10.1 Million
Meanwhile, Soaltee Hotels & Resorts has contributed NPR 10.1 million to the Government of Nepal to support relief and rehabilitation efforts for communities affected by the recent floods. The amount was deposited into the Prime Minister’s Disaster Relief Fund on September 5, adding private sector support to the government’s ongoing response.
The cheque was handed over to Finance Minister Dr. Swarnim Wagle by Soaltee Hotels & Resorts Chairman Dinesh Bahadur Bista and Vice President Sudarshan Chapagain. The company said the contribution reflects its solidarity with flood affected families and its commitment to supporting Nepal during the difficult period of national disaster.
The assistance will contribute to broader relief and rehabilitation efforts, as affected communities continue to recover from the destruction caused by the floods in Nepal. Soaltee also emphasized the importance of unity and collective resilience as Nepal moves from immediate emergency response toward recovery.
Private Sector Adds Momentum To Recovery
The responses from Siddhartha Hospitality and Soaltee Hotels & Resorts show two different approaches to private sector disaster assistance: direct financial support for the national relief mechanism and targeted, longer term support for children whose lives and education have been disrupted. With many affected communities still facing difficulties after the floods, the need for assistance is extending beyond food and emergency supplies. Education, safe accommodation, family support and rehabilitation are becoming equally important as Nepal moves from immediate disaster response toward longer term recovery.
