PATA Nepal Chapter To Host Crisis To Recovery Workshop For Tourism Revival

The Pacific Asia Travel Association (PATA) Nepal Chapter in collaboration with the PATA Foundation and e-Tourism Frontiers will hold a workshop aimed at enhancing Nepal’s tourism recovery through strengthening communication, coordination and rebuilding efforts. To be held under the title “Crisis to Recovery: Communication, Coordination and Rebuilding Nepal’s Tourism Corridor,” the event is scheduled for Monday, September 21, 2026, from 2:00 PM to 5:30 PM. The programme takes place at a time when Nepal’s tourism industry is working to rebuild confidence, enhance coordination among stakeholders and support the recovery of tourism corridors impacted by recent disruptions.

Industry Leaders To Focus On Communication And Coordinated Recovery

It will be led by Sarah Mathews, CEO of e-Tourism Frontiers, Trustee of the PATA Foundation and former Chairperson of PATA. The programme is intended to unite tourism stakeholders around approaches to crisis communication, recovery planning and rebuilding efforts centred on coordinated industry action. According to the event announcement, Mathews has worked with Nepal through past tourism crises and has contributed to efforts connected with lifting recent travel warnings on online travel platforms.

The session is expected to provide tourism businesses and organizations with an opportunity to examine how communication can be strengthened during disruption, while maintaining coordinated recovery. The organizers have specifically positioned the workshop as a platform for bringing together stakeholders who directly impact the maintenance of Nepal’s tourism connectivity and market confidence. The programme will also encourage participants to consider how the sector can shift from the immediate response to crisis to a process of structured recovery and rebuilding.

Recovery Framework To Move From Response To Rebuilding

A central element of the workshop will be the introduction of a “React – Resource – Rebuild – Return” recovery framework. The framework is intended to provide a structured view on tourism recovery, beginning with an effective response to disruption, and moving through resource mobilization, rebuilding the affected tourism activities and the return of visitors and normal tourism operations.

The workshop will also focus on crisis communication and content integrity, recognizing the importance of accurate and coordinated information during the time when tourism destinations and travel routes experience disruption. Participants will have the opportunity to discuss how tourism businesses and destination organizations can communicate responsibly, while supporting recovery. The programme is therefore expected to connect communication to wider tourism recovery planning, rather than treating crisis messaging as a separate industry function.

Nepal Tourism Recovery Fund To Feature In Workshop

Another key element of the programme will be a Nepal Tourism Recovery Fund briefing, which adds a financial and institutional component to the wider recovery agenda of the workshop. This briefing is intended to provide participants with information that is pertinent to the work to support tourism recovery and rebuilding, and the impact of the recent disruptions on the sector. Including the fund in the programme also gives tourism stakeholders an opportunity to gain a deeper understanding of possible recovery mechanisms, and the role coordinated support has in rebuilding the affected tourism activities.

The organizers have extended invitations to a wide range of tourism industry players, including hoteliers, tour operators, NTOs/DMOs, destination management companies, airlines, content creators and other tourism stakeholders. The aim of this participation is to foster interaction between businesses, destination organizations and other actors that impact the experience in Nepal and its standing in the international markets. The event will conclude with a high tea and networking session, providing participants with a further opportunity to share ideas and establish industry connections.

Tourism Stakeholders Invited To Shape The Road From Crisis To Recovery

This workshop holds significance for Nepal’s tourism sector, as industry stakeholders continue to work to deal with the consequences of recent disruptions and restore confidence in the impacted tourism corridors. Unlike a concentration solely on the immediate response, the programme is built around communication, coordination, resource mobilization and long-term rebuilding, giving the event a broader recovery-focused perspective. According to the organizers, clear communication and coordinated action have become increasingly important as Nepal seeks to rebuild its tourism sector in the wake of the recent floods.

Participation in the workshop requires a registration fee of NPR 2,000 per person, which the organizers describe as a nominal charge that covers refreshments and workshop logistics. With the event being scheduled for September 21, the program is expected to gather tourism professionals in Kathmandu to discuss how the sector can reinforce the recovery process and get ready for tourism activity to return along the impacted corridors. Ultimately, the workshop will provide a platform for industry stakeholders to share practical perspectives and foster stronger coordination for Nepal’s tourism recovery.
