Nepal Mountaineering Association (NMA) has advised expedition partners to hold off travel and mountaineering operations for the next few days, as continued rainfall throughout Nepal may result in challenging weather conditions for travel and expeditions. The association released a press statement on September 25, 2026, urging climbers, expedition organisers and members of the mountaineering community to review the latest weather forecasts, rainfall alerts and flood warnings before making travel decisions and expedition plans. According to the statement, they believe that the requested precautions are issued in view of the latest weather forecasts and the official safety recommendations issued by the Government of Nepal.
NMA Encourages Expedition Partners To Hold Off Travel Until Further Notice
Under the signed statement, NMA encourages expedition partners to temporarily hold off travel and mountaineering expeditions for the upcoming days and operate according to the official guidelines issued by the Government of Nepal. They expressed that the request was issued in view of the continuous weather forecast indicating continuous weather conditions until September 27, 2026, and recommended expedition partners make safety as a priority when making travel decisions in the upcoming days as well as during the rainy season.
In addition, the association also encourages everybody making plans for expeditions to remain well informed prior to departure and stay prepared in case of changing conditions. They added that it was important to remain aware of the weather forecasts, rainfall alerts and flood warnings as the changing weather conditions may impact travel plans and operations of expeditions.
While making the request public, NMA expressed that the decision was for the safety of the entire expedition community and urged members of the mountaineering community and expedition organizers to stay prepared prior to departure and adhere to the official guidelines concerning the current weather conditions throughout the duration of the expeditions.
Safety And Well Being Of Expedition Community Prioritized
NMA expressed concerns over the safety and well being of the expedition community. Accordingly, they encouraged expedition partners, travelers and everyone involved in mountaineering and expeditions to remain cautious and well informed while making plans and operating during the continuous rainy season, in addition to the current unfavorable weather conditions. The press statement signed by Phur Gelje Sherpa, President of the Nepal Mountaineering Association, advises expedition partners and the mountaineering community to closely monitor updates regarding weather forecasts, rainfall alerts and flood warnings issued by the government.
Following the request, Nepal Mountaineering Association’s statement does not indicate any changes to ongoing expeditions; instead, they ask expedition partners and climbers to remain watchful, ensure personal safety and make well informed decisions at all times during the course of the journey. As of the date of the release of the statement, continuous weather conditions throughout Nepal have been in place since early September 2026, with the weather forecast predicting continuous conditions at least until September 27, 2026.
Weather Forecast Through September 27 Encourages Precaution

While issuing the statement, NMA mentioned that the impact of weather conditions forecasted through September 27, 2026, can be highly unpredictable and may impact the operations of the expedition. As such, they requested everyone involved in expedition operations to remain cautious and ensure the safety of all those involved when making decisions regarding travel during the forecast period. Additionally, the statement reads. Furthermore, the association requests everyone involved in expeditions to remain well informed about the updated information and follow up the updates concerning the weather conditions and associated warnings closely in order to resume travel and expeditions as soon as the conditions permit.
