Experienced Mountain Guides Lead Search and Recovery

The ongoing search operation is being led by Pasang Kaji Sherpa, an IFMGA Mountain Guide, with support from Bikram Karki, also an IFMGA Mountain Guide, along with experienced climbing guides and rescue personnel. The team has been working in coordination with Himalayan Holidays to locate and recover those still missing in the avalanche-affected area. The operation has been particularly challenging because of difficult terrain, unstable snow conditions and adverse weather at high altitude. Despite the risks, the rescue personnel have continued their efforts to search areas affected by the avalanche and recover the missing climbers and mountain workers.

Eleven Bodies Recovered From 16 Missing

A total of 16 people were reported missing after the avalanche struck the Himlung Himal base camp area in Manang. With the recovery of four additional bodies today, 11 bodies have now been recovered, according to the NNMGA update. Five people are still unaccounted for, and the search operation remains ongoing. The latest recovery represents a significant development in the prolonged search operation, although the difficult conditions continue to pose major challenges for the rescue personnel working at the site.

Avalanche Triggered by Adverse Weather

The Himlung Himal area experienced deteriorating weather conditions beginning around September 25, with severe weather contributing to the avalanche in the mountain region. The avalanche struck the Himlung base camp area, where climbers, guides and support personnel were present. The incident resulted in multiple people being trapped or swept away, prompting the deployment of experienced mountain guides and search and rescue personnel. The high-altitude environment, heavy snow and difficult access have complicated efforts to locate everyone reported missing following the incident.

Search Operation Continues for Five Missing People

The NNMGA Search and Rescue Team has confirmed that the operation will continue to locate the remaining five missing people. Rescue Team Leader Pasang Kaji Sherpa and his team are continuing the search while working under extremely difficult mountain conditions. The operation involves experienced mountain guides familiar with high-altitude terrain and rescue operations. NNMGA has said that further verified information will be released as details are confirmed. The association is expected to provide additional information regarding the identities of the recovered individuals and the progress of the ongoing search.
