Nepal’s Tourism Minister Meets Former South Korean Tourism Minister, Discusses Strengthening Bilateral Ties

Nepal’s Minister for Culture, Tourism, and Civil Aviation, Badri Prasad Pandey, held a meeting with former South Korean Tourism Minister Yoo Jin Rong at Singha Durbar today. The meeting took place as part of Minister Rong’s visit to Nepal, accompanied by a delegation.

During the discussion, Minister Pandey highlighted the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Nepal and South Korea, expressing optimism that the ties between the two nations will continue to strengthen. He recalled the cultural agreement signed between Nepal and Korea in 2005 and emphasized the potential for further cooperation in culture, education, youth sports, and tourism.

Minister Pandey also addressed the issue of high airfares between Nepal and South Korea, a common complaint among the public. “More than 50,000 Nepalis live in Korea, and they often express concerns about the high cost of airfare when traveling back and forth. I hope the Korean government will consider this,” he stated.

Former Minister Yoo Jin Rong acknowledged that around 30,000 South Korean tourists visit Nepal annually, and he praised the friendly relations between the two countries. He assured Minister Pandey that he would discuss the possibility of reducing airfares with the South Korean government.

Additionally, Minister Yoo extended an invitation to Minister Pandey to visit South Korea in 2025.
