Hetauda’s Pathibhara Temple Attracts Devotees for Dashain Rituals

The Pathibhara Temple at Bhairavdanda in Hetauda Sub-Metropolitan City-1, Makwanpur, is conducting Dashain with a special religious ritual known as Gupt Satchandi Pathparayan, attracting devotees who can partake in traditional worship during Nepal’s biggest Hindu festival. The ritual has begun on Ghatasthapana and will continue until Mahanavami, according to the founder of the temple, Guru Devidas.

The annual observance demonstrates the significance of the temple as a regional centre of religious importance, and as an alternative pilgrimage site for devotees who are unable to reach the original Pathibhara Temple in Taplejung. Located in Bhairavdanda, the Hetauda temple offers a place to practice worship and religious observance that maintains the traditions of the goddess Durga.

Special Satchandi Ritual During Dashain

Gupt Satchandi Pathparayan is a Vedic religious observance performed to honour and receive the blessings of Mahakali, Mahalakshmi and Mahasaraswati, the three forms of Goddess Durga. The ritual is considered an important form of worship, especially during Dashain when devotees from across Nepal gather at temples and participate in religious ceremonies to receive blessings of peace, prosperity and well-being.

At the Pathibhara Temple in Hetauda, the recitation of the Veda has begun on Ghatasthapana, the first day of Dashain, and it is set to conclude on Mahanavami, the ninth day of Dashain. The ceremony adds to the festivities at the temple and offers devotees a chance to observe religious traditions throughout the main days of Dashain.

Temple Established With Sacred Objects From Taplejung

The Pathibhara Temple at Bhairavdanda was established with a sacred stone, a trident and a ceremonial kalash brought from the famous Pathibhara Temple in Taplejung. These religious objects connect the Hetauda shrine with one of the renowned pilgrimage centres in eastern Nepal and enhance the significance of the site among devotees.

In addition to traditional worship, the temple has also maintained an unbroken Akhand Havan, or continuous sacred fire ritual, since October 13, 2008. These ongoing religious practices have enabled the temple to be a place for devotees who wish to have a spiritual experience closer to home.

Alternative Pilgrimage Destination for Devotees

The temple at Hetauda has become an alternative for those who are unable to complete the journey to Pathibhara Temple in Taplejung. By providing an opportunity for worship and religious observance that have been associated with the original shrine, the Hetauda Pathibhara Temple is offering devotees another site to fulfill their spiritual practices, especially on festive occasions like Dashain.

The ongoing Gupt Satchandi Pathparayan further highlights the potential of religious sites in Makwanpur to attract religious tourists and visit Nepal’s rich living cultural traditions. Such temples are essential to the development of the country’s religious tourism as they help bring devotees to places of worship and sustain the country’s diverse pilgrimage heritage.
