Malaysia Aviation Group Secures Top Credit Ratings, Advances Aviation Growth Plans

Malaysia Aviation Group (MAG) has welcomed its first credit rating assessment from MARC Ratings, receiving the agency’s highest possible ratings for its proposed Islamic financing programmes. Announced on November 2, 2026, the rating marks an important development in the group’s financial strategy as it prepares for its next phase of business expansion.

The ratings cover MAG’s proposed Islamic Commercial Papers (ICP) and Islamic Medium Term Notes (IMTN) Programmes, collectively known as the Sukuk Programme. MAG Receives Highest Possible Credit Ratings from MARC Ratings

Malaysia Aviation Group has received MARC-1IS and AAAIS ratings from MARC Ratings for its proposed Islamic Commercial Papers and Islamic Medium-Term Notes Programmes. The assessment represents MAG’s first credit rating assignment from the agency and places the group at the highest level of its rating scale. It also reflects the agency’s assessment of the group’s financial position and its ongoing efforts to maintain stable business operations.

The rating assessment highlights MAG’s steady operational performance, financial discipline and implementation of its long-term business strategy. It also reinforces the group’s position as the parent company of Malaysia Airlines Berhad, the country’s national carrier, and as an integrated aviation services provider. The development is expected to support confidence in MAG’s financial direction as it continues implementing its transformation and growth priorities.

Long Term Business Plan Guides Strategic Expansion

MAG’s growth strategy is being guided by its Long Term Business Plan 3.0, which focuses on strengthening the group’s operational and commercial performance. The plan provides a framework for managing investments, improving business capabilities and supporting sustainable expansion. The latest credit rating assessment is an important development as the group continues executing its strategic priorities and planning for growth beyond 2030.

The group also maintains strategic alignment with its majority shareholder, Khazanah Nasional Berhad, which supports its broader long term direction. This relationship is highlighted as an important factor behind confidence in MAG’s future development. By maintaining financial discipline while pursuing business expansion, the group aims to strengthen its position in the aviation industry and build a more sustainable operating structure.

Fleet Modernisation and Infrastructure Investments Support Growth

As part of its next phase of transformation, MAG is advancing several strategic projects designed to increase operational capacity and support commercial expansion. These include continued investment in fleet modernisation, network growth and infrastructure development. Such investments are intended to strengthen the group’s aviation operations while supporting its ability to respond to changing market requirements and future business opportunities.

One of the major infrastructure initiatives is the development of a new in flight catering facility, which forms part of the group’s efforts to expand its operational capabilities and enhance onboard services. MAG is also working to scale its maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) capabilities, strengthening an important part of its aviation services business. Together, these projects reflect the group’s focus on improving service delivery, developing technical expertise and supporting the long-term growth of its aviation operations.

Sukuk Programme to Support Sustainable Financial Planning

MAG is exploring different financing options to support its strategic investments, including the proposed Sukuk Programme. The Islamic financing arrangement includes ICP and IMTN programmes, which are intended to support the group’s long term financial plans while maintaining financial discipline and sustainable growth. Commenting on the development, MAG President and Group Chief Executive Officer Captain Nasaruddin A.

Bakar said the group’s progress under LTBP3.0 was guided by sound financial planning, operational discipline and clear commercial priorities. He added that the credit rating supported its strategic direction as the company planned beyond 2030. Captain Bakar also highlighted plans to expand the group’s network, improve in flight services and strengthen its technical maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) capabilities.

He said these investments would contribute to Malaysia’s ambition of becoming a leading regional aerospace hub while supporting the development of the national aviation industry. MAG stated that it would continue maintaining strict financial governance and appropriate market disclosures as it implements its growth strategy. Its focus on fleet modernisation, infrastructure development, network expansion and technical services will remain central to strengthening its position in the regional aviation market.
