Vehicular movement on the Galchhi-Rasuwagadhi road has been severely disrupted due to a significant landslide involving large boulders. The landslide, which occurred near Belkotgadhi Municipality-8 in Nuwakot, has completely blocked the dedicated double-lane road.
Jejung Karki, Chief of the District Traffic Office, reported that the landslide has caused a major obstruction on the road, impacting the key transportation route from Devighat to Galchhi via Mahadevphant. This road is crucial for connecting several important destinations, including Kerung and Rasuwagadhi, which are significant for both trade and tourism.
The blockage has led to considerable inconvenience for transport vehicles, with no immediate alternative routes available. As a result, vehicles traveling to Kerung via Trishuli in Nuwakot or Rasuwagadhi from Galchhi and Dhading are advised to reroute through Kathmandu, utilizing the Tokha-Chhahare road instead.
Dhurba Kumar Shrestha, Chief of the Galchhi-Rasuwagadhi Road Project Office, indicated that clearing the road will take some time. A ‘breaker’ must be installed to remove the boulders that fell during the landslide on Wednesday night. Heavy equipment and personnel have been deployed since this morning to address the debris and restore normalcy to the road.
The disruption of this key route has implications for tourism in the region. The Galchhi-Rasuwagadhi road serves as a vital link for tourists traveling to the popular Rasuwagadhi border crossing and other destinations in the region. The road’s closure may affect tourist travel plans and accessibility to attractions in Nuwakot and the surrounding areas.
Authorities are working diligently to resolve the situation and minimize the impact on transportation and tourism. Travelers are advised to stay updated on road conditions and plan their journeys accordingly to avoid delays.
