Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Urban Development, Prakash Man Singh, emphasized that the inclusive and proportional representation enshrined in Nepal’s current constitution is a result of the movements led by Mangala Devi Singh.
Speaking at the inauguration of the Mangala Devi Singh Senior Citizen Park in Basantanagar, Kathmandu Metropolitan City-6, Singh highlighted the contributions of Mangala Devi Singh, acknowledging her as the first woman to raise her voice for the rights and representation of Nepali women.
“The constitution now ensures inclusive and proportional representation in every sector, securing women’s rights and representation at the policy level,” said Deputy Prime Minister Singh. “The movements associated with women’s rights were led by Mangala Devi Singh.”
The newly inaugurated park, funded by the Ministry of Culture, Tourism, and Urban Development of Bagmati Province, features traditional Newari architecture, including a falcha (rest house), and well-maintained restrooms. Province Assembly member Dipendra Shrestha noted that the park will serve as a comfortable space for senior citizens from Baneshwar, Buddhanagar, and Babermahal to relax and spend their time.
Ward Chairman Hiralal Tandukar of Kathmandu-11 informed that the ward will manage and preserve the park, ensuring it remains a welcoming space for the community’s elderly residents.
