The American Chamber of Commerce (AmCham) in Nepal has successfully conducted its 12th Member Learning Series at the Disaster Institute (DI) as part of its regular programming for member organizations. The event, held on Thursday, focused on disaster risk management and the role of the private sector in enhancing resilience.

During the session, Nilu Basnet, the Nepal representative from DI, emphasized the significant damage caused by disasters in Nepal and highlighted the need for increased resources and tools for prevention and mitigation. She outlined DI’s efforts in disaster preparedness, local training, policy development, risk insurance, and climate change awareness.

Dr. Gopal Tiwari discussed the contributions of USAID’s “Tayar Nepal” project, which has created opportunities for entrepreneurship. He reported that the project has already expanded over 35 businesses and continues to support them with necessary assistance. The project also promotes green businesses and has provided business continuity management training to approximately 700 individuals.

Suman Shakya, who presented on disaster management and mitigation, noted the positive changes observed in local communities following the project’s implementation. Since its inception in 2016, DI has been contributing to sustainable development goals through various projects, and it operates in over 150 countries focusing on disaster management.
