Bagmati Province Chief Minister Bahadur Singh Lama has called for coordinated efforts among the three tiers of government to ensure sufficient budget allocation and strategic planning to mitigate the negative impacts of climate change. Speaking at an interaction titled “Strategy to Mitigate the Effects of Climate Change” organized by the Editors’ Society Nepal, held at the Govinda Biyogi Journalism Study Centre in Suryachaur, Nuwakot, Chief Minister Lama emphasized the need for collaborative action to protect the environment, human settlements, and wildlife.
In response to questions from journalists, Chief Minister Lama highlighted that the Nagmati dam project could also serve as a source of electricity, but underscored the importance of conducting a thorough impact study on the surrounding human settlements. He expressed his commitment to ensuring that development projects align with environmental preservation goals, safeguarding both nature and the well-being of communities.
The event also featured Shivapuri Rural Municipality Chair Govinda Prasad Thapaliya, who discussed the municipality’s efforts to boost local tourism as part of its climate and development strategy. He highlighted the various initiatives being organized to promote domestic tourism in the region, including festivals, homestay training programs, and promotional campaigns. Thapaliya explained that these initiatives aim to enhance the income of residents by attracting more tourists to Shivapuri, known for its natural beauty, rich biodiversity, and growing popularity as an eco-tourism destination.
Shivapuri, with its picturesque landscapes and proximity to the Shivapuri Nagarjun National Park, offers visitors opportunities for trekking, wildlife observation, and homestays, making it an ideal destination for eco-conscious travelers. The increasing focus on tourism promotion, along with efforts to combat climate change, positions Shivapuri and the surrounding areas as a model for sustainable development in Bagmati Province.
