In a tragic incident on Friday, nature guide Manmohan Chaudhary lost his life in a rhino attack at the Shiva Community Forest in Surypatuwa, Madhuban Municipality, Bardiya. The National Nature Conservation Fund (NTNC), through the Division Forest Office Bardiya, has provided NPR 50,000 to Chaudhary’s family for livelihood support. The senior forest officer, Tank Bahadur Gurung, confirmed the assistance and mentioned that the Lumbini Province government will also grant NPR 100,000 under the “Victim Support Program” in the coming days.
Ajit Tumbahamfe, a conservation officer at NTNC Bardiya, explained that the aid is aimed at helping the family cope with their loss. NTNC has a history of supporting families affected by wildlife incidents.
The attack occurred at the Dalla Community Forest in Madhuban Municipality-1 while Chaudhary was guiding foreign tourists. The rhino attacked Chaudhary during the encounter, resulting in his death. American tourist MC Landon Shaw, 56, was also injured in the incident. The site of the attack lies on a biological corridor connecting India’s Katarniaghat Wildlife Sanctuary with Bardiya National Park.
