Landslides Disrupt Bhimdatta and KI Singh Highways, Impacting Tourism in Sudurpaschim

The Bhimdatta Highway and KI Singh Highway have been blocked due to multiple landslides following continuous heavy rainfall since Wednesday evening. This disruption not only affects daily life but also impacts tourism in Sudurpaschim Province, a region known for its scenic landscapes and cultural significance.

Landslides have also blocked several rural roads across the province, further isolating communities. The Bhimdatta Highway, which serves as a vital link between the seven hilly districts and the southern plains, is currently impassable. Similarly, the KI Singh Highway, which connects Dadeldhura and Doti districts, is completely blocked, with major landslides reported in Sahukharka and Ganyapdhura.

In addition, a landslide at Sunkhola in Alital Rural Municipality has disrupted the route from Jogbudha in Dadeldhura to Budar in Doti, causing further delays in travel. The blocked roadways have stranded dozens of vehicles carrying essential goods and tourist supplies, leaving travelers in limbo.

The disruption has also affected the power supply in Dadeldhura, compounding the challenges faced by locals and tourists alike. With many rural areas already hard to access, the closure of these key highways threatens to further diminish the flow of tourists to Sudurpaschim, which relies heavily on road connectivity to showcase its attractions.

Tourism businesses are bracing for potential losses as the road blockages continue. If the situation persists, the region’s tourism sector, which contributes significantly to the local economy, may experience a significant decline in visitor numbers during this peak travel season.

Local authorities are working to clear the roads and restore normalcy, but until then, tourists are advised to check travel updates before planning trips to the affected areas.
