Sneha Group Chairperson Bhawani Rana Emphasizes Need for Border Management to Boost Tourism in Nepal

Chairperson of Sneha Group, Bhawani Rana, has highlighted the urgent need for improved management of Nepal’s border points to promote tourism. Speaking at the Hotelier Summit 2024 organized by Capital Nepal on Friday, she stressed that managing key entry points such as Bhairahawa, Birgunj, Kakarbhitta, and those in the Far West could significantly increase the inflow of tourists into Nepal.

Rana pointed out the importance of focusing on the tourism potential of border regions, noting that many tourists enter Nepal through these points, especially those traveling to neighboring countries like India, China, and Bhutan. “We have not paid enough attention to border tourism. Many tourists enter Nepal through the borders, just as they do via other means of transportation. Visitors to China, India, and Bhutan also often use these border points to visit Nepal,” she said.

She further explained that visa issues often prevent tourists from entering Nepal via these borders. “Some tourists are unable to enter Nepal due to visa-related challenges. If the government addresses these issues with appropriate policies and management, it would greatly benefit the tourism sector.”

In addition to managing border points, Rana also emphasized the need for infrastructure development, particularly roads connecting these entry points to key tourist destinations. She suggested the establishment of welcome stations at these borders, adding that the government and private sector’s attention in this area could enhance tourism promotion and support business growth.

She believes that with the right policies and management at the borders, Nepal’s tourism industry can see significant growth, benefitting both tourists and local businesses.
