To boost tourism in Khalanga Bazaar, the Chandan Nath Municipality has announced plans to develop infrastructure along the Jugadkhola Corridor. Mayor Raju Singh Kathayat informed that the municipality has begun surveying the area for the construction of tourism-related infrastructure.
The initial phase of the multi-year project will see the construction of a three-kilometer stretch of the corridor for NPR 60 million in the current fiscal year. The corridor will span two meters on both sides of Jugadkhola, starting from the office of the Khalanga Drinking Water Consumers’ Committee in Ward No. 5 and extending to the bridge leading to Malabid in Ward No. 4.
The municipality has urged the removal of physical structures encroaching on public land within the designated area. Mayor Kathayat warned that if structures are not voluntarily cleared, the city will be forced to demolish them.
Chief Administrative Officer Dharma Raj Nyaupane stated that, with assistance from the Urban Development and Building Construction Project, the Jugadkhola Corridor will be completed at a total cost of NPR 200 million. The main goal is to clean and green the area, which has been facing issues of pollution and waste.
The corridor will feature street lights, CCTV cameras, and benches for rest. Additionally, infrastructure will be developed to facilitate morning walks and ensure the cleanliness of the Jugadkhola area, according to Deputy Mayor Ramadevi Khadka.
This initiative is expected to revitalize the area and position it as a key tourist attraction, enhancing the local economy and environment.
