In recent years, the Barah Tal area in Tamankhola and the Bukki region in Dhorpatan have increasingly become preferred destinations for domestic tourists. The proximity of Barah Tal to Burtibang Bazaar, coupled with its access to Bukki in Dhorpatan, has made it an attractive spot for trekking enthusiasts.
According to Joklal Budha Magar, Chairman of Tamankhola Rural Municipality, there has been a notable rise in trekking interest among the younger generation, prompting a focus on infrastructure development in Barah Tal. This rise in local tourism has also led to a growing trend of exploration and leisure travel, contributing to the promotion of religious and tourist sites in Baglung.
Once relatively quiet, these tourist areas have seen a surge in domestic visitors over the past decade. Alongside well-known destinations, new locations like Bukki Pattan, Rig Tal, Barah Tal, Patihalne, and Tewa’s sculptures have gained prominence in recent years. Chairman Magar reported that over NPR 10 million has been invested in developing Barah Tal, including infrastructure such as temple conservation and trail construction. Previously, the lack of amenities meant fewer visitors from outside the local area, but now daily internal tourism is on the rise.
Chairman Magar highlighted Barah Tal’s appeal, noting that its location offers views of high mountain ranges and snow-capped peaks. The area’s charm is accentuated in winter when it is adorned with blooming rhododendrons. The development of infrastructure in Barah Tal remains a priority to enhance its appeal.
The Bukki Pattan in Dhorpatan, Nepal’s only hunting reserve, has also gained significant attention since last year. Known for its excellent trekking opportunities, Bukki Pattan is accessible via a four-hour trek from Dhorpatan Valley, reaching altitudes between 3,000 and 4,500 meters. Resident Shyam Poon Magar reported that around 2,000 tourists have visited Bukki Pattan this season, a significant increase from those who previously only visited Dhorpatan Valley.
Visitors to Bukki Pattan can experience stunning high-altitude views, including numerous sheep herds, pastures, and impressive mountain ranges. Bivek Sharma, a traveler from Butwal, praised Bukki Pattan for its scenic beauty, noting that the journey involves a four-hour trek from Dhorpatan after reaching by vehicle.
Sharma also suggested the need for better infrastructure along the trek to Bukki Pattan, including information boards, rest areas, and restrooms to enhance the visitor experience. This would address current gaps and further promote the region as a premier trekking destination.
Overall, the growing interest in Barah Tal and Bukki Pattan underscores the increasing appeal of Nepal’s diverse trekking destinations, driven by improved infrastructure and the natural beauty of these regions.
