In a landmark move to enhance tourism in the region, the Ministry of Industry, Tourism, and Transport of Lumbini Province has announced its decision to appoint the province’s first-ever honorary tourism ambassador. The appointment aims to promote Lumbini as a key tourist destination and support the growth of its tourism sector.
Prachanda Bikram Neupane, the Minister of Industry, Tourism, and Transport, expressed optimism about the initiative, stating that it will significantly benefit the development of tourism in the province. He emphasized that individuals with in-depth knowledge of the Lumbini region’s tourist sites are being considered for the role.
“The appointment of a tourism ambassador will be a key step towards promoting Lumbini’s rich heritage and natural beauty to a global audience,” said Minister Neupane. He added that a system is being developed to select the right individual for this important position.
In addition to the ambassadorial appointment, the Ministry is also working on establishing a Tourism Development Council to further drive tourism growth in Lumbini. The Act governing the council is being prepared, and it has been decided that the council’s chairman, who is also the minister, will have the authority to dismiss any nominated member who misses three or more meetings.
This initiative is part of a broader strategy to position Lumbini, the birthplace of Lord Buddha, as a major international pilgrimage and tourism hub, while also developing the region’s infrastructure and services for visitors.
